as long as i am living comfortably and not digging myself into debt, i'd choose social wealth for sure.

I guess it's hard for most of us to agree with choosing a better social situation over a better financial situation because of the state of the world we live in.

When I think about it, I guess the question is really whether you'd like to live in a world where people care about each other, or a world where everything is just the way it is right now, but you are filthy rich. If you answer that you'd prefer the first, then I guess you are on the same page as me when I say that if we did live in that world, many of the luxuries and privileges rich people enjoy would no longer be denied to us. If you choose the second, then you probably don't think that the level of social progress I'm talking about is realistic or you don't care if it happens, because you'd honestly rather choose to stay in this environment over that (even if it were 100% possible).

Yes, being a millionaire doesn't appeal to me today because I don't actively fantasize about that. I wouldn't turn it today, but I would turn it down if I were part of the society I dream about.

See, this quote is a prime example of why we can't have nice things in this forum.

Isn't crushing really just intense hugging?

I can't do extremes.

Being a trillionaire with no friends would be miserable.
Being the guy on the street with a ton of friends would be miserable...unless they offered you the spare bedroom and fed me! Then I'd feel guilty about that.

I'd settle for being a pretty social multi millionaire.

I'd have to find happiness within me first. Without it, neither financial wealth nor social wealth are desirable.

I like how you came at it from a completely different perspective.
