it's free for 30 days. if you use it longer it's not legal.

if it doesn't stop to work after the trial period it doesn't make it more legal. though the non-commercial price is not that steep.

thank you for all your reply's and debates its been good to read.

But now i feel I will have to try both demo version. Reaper sounds good but i'm looking for something that in years to come I will feel comfortable with when I upgrade.

Palm I would love to go Mac, my friend swears by it who is a classical composer. But funds do not stretch to that kind of budget.(new Mac and Daw).

You won't find anything better than ableton. If you can't make good music in it you won't make good music in anything.

Renoise! Old school (pre-piano-roll) music composition is making it's comeback!

Free version with only 2 limits, no wav export, no asio. But if you've got a decent pc you can run DirectX way below 20ms anyway .

Version 2 is coming soon, with full Plugin Delay Compensation. Then it's really starting to get good . The beta's are out now for registered (paid) users and it looks very promising.

lol pretty bold statement Iīd say. It just didnīt fit my way of doing things, but I should take another look at it. I really did want to like it, since it seems like you can hammer down ideas in an instant.

I could have sworn it was free at one point - even recently - but I guess not.

There are other DAWs as good as ableton, but nothing thats so much improved that it'll revolutionalise your production ability. I wasn't saying that ableton is the best and everything else is inferior neccesarily, I don't have the experience to say that. only that ableton has no crippling flaws which bring it down terribly. IMO ableton has the easiest gui of any DAW, the other's are extremely cluttered by comparison and aren't as logically laid out.
