Sorry but turning sample rate up would increase the CPU load as it has to process more samples per second to produce a proper output.

Furthermore I think only Reason 4 has proper multi-core support (not sure). And it (used to) have problems with intel hyperthreading as well, I'm not sure if that's still the case, or if multi-core processors even use hyperthreading nowadays. My bet would be that Reason uses only one of your cores. If you see the CPU usage meter in Reason freaking out while task manager says you only use 50% there's obviously something going wrong with Reason and the multi core processor.

reason 4 is atleast supporting 2 cores, more i dont know. try downloading asio4all and see whether that helps or not. set sample rate to 44.1 and buffer size to 1024 (23ms) in reason preferences. also look at how to make your tracks more efficient (see manuall, i learned a few tricks there). and what comp are u running? Im on a 1,83GHz Dual Core Mac Mini 1GB Ram now and have no problems, my most complex track as of lately (around 20channels) runs on three dots in the DSP loadbar.

Well I'm saying that if I over 3x my sample rate to 192khz then I only need to slightly increase my buffer size (say 30%) which is still a much lower latency overall.

how can this be, i just tested a track i made ages ago which ive had problems with later on, cou maxing out etc. now that i opened it on my mac mini it just works without any problems. my other comp is 2,4GHz (i think) QUAD Core with 4GB Ram, this one is 1,83GHz Dual Core with 1GB Ram and this one works much better? on Reason that is. i think theres something strange about the DSP meter in reason, atleast it does not seem to have much to do with actualy CPU realy, maybe its a combination of CPU use and RAM use????

Well when I mentioned I only had to turn buffer size up 30% that was with me playing a single note to see whether there were issues (however, I've gotten up to 32 note polyphony on a complicated patch before issues with this setting however).

I mean hell, with an e8400/gigabyte ep35 whatever ds3 which I bought for gaming, I can get 4ms latency with just the onboard sound and no asio support (using dx).

what is asio4all?. i will try setting thoughs rates and see if it helps.
i have been trying to make my tracks more efficient. i'm using the send/return, and using the nn-xt for multi fx isntead of loading one sample per nn-19. plus i have been trying to fill out the redrums better.

i sent my file to a buddy, im just waiting to hear back and see what he thinks.

thanks for the advice guys, still kinda stuck though

I just tested the cpu performance on my computer (2.2ghz dual core) running Reason 4 maxed out and its doing the same thing! CPU meter only shows about 50% when Reason is at 100%.

Reason only use ONE core for itīs audio. Imagine writing a code that would support dual core cpus, with that wiring system.
Not saying it couldnīt be done, but it would be a overwhelming task, to say the least.
This has been explained by Propīs programmers.

Is there a way to take a screen shot of the entire vertical part of reason, not the playlist but for example all the devices in all the combinators i have.
