in it's purest sense.. i think a lot of what people call ambient isn't really ambient at all.. while not a rule by any means.. i think most stuff which people call ambient which has a beat , isn't usually ambient.. ... anyone here listen to Experimental Audio Research.. ?

Ambient is a really nice type of music..
I think the band named Massive Attack is the king of ambient
music. They got 3 albums. The last 1 is absolute ace! Check it out it's called Mezzanine.
take care.

To me ambient is anything that's downtempo and is geared to listening to while chilling or at lounges etc... I dunno what I like that I call ambient/chill out is stuff from Fila Brazilia, Lamb, Art of Noise, Banco de Gaia, A Guy Called Gerald, Kruder and Dorfmeister ( I love their compilations ), St. Germain... etc, etc...
I love this music tho, theres a lot of variety and creativity, the artists cross boundaries and don't seem to be afraid of trying anything new...

I don't think Gus Gus even really fits one category.. They have so many different styles, all I can suggest is seeing them perform live if you can, I hear thats really an awesome experience.. I saw one of their shows in some college in the UK on TV in Iceland and it was very cool..
