this concerns at least some djs:
when they go out on a tour, they dont bring along all their records.
some are only filling up one record box ,and play the vinyls they bring along on the tour on each performance, so from time to time the sets becomes identical.

i know ppl are saying they are getting so many promos each week and stuff, but they dont get them on the airplane.. they gotta pick them up (at least some of them ), they gotta listen to the vinyls before the gig and pick those they like and thing can be good for the set. when you dont have so much time left over to do this, things ends up with the normal result -> the same tunes are being played again.

that's at least how ive understood it by reading a bit here and there, and talking to ppl who are djing

yes this is true thats why those DJ's you mentioned blow. You always finding the progressive dj's playing their own unreleased stuff all the time and that of others. The trance djs are jsut $$$ mongers.

I know perfectly well what breakbeat is,and I also know that Oakey has said for himself that he likes to play breakbeat.It's obvious that you think Oakey's only style is the one he had in 98-00.So don't come here and flame me when you haven't got the slightest idea of what my knowledge and taste in music is like.

I totally agree.Actually,many trance sets nowadays fail to give me those never heard of-tracks.When I scan tracklists nowadays,I always try to look for sets with a lot of tracks that I haven't heard of.And there seems to be less and less of those sets by the day.Now sometimes of course,DJs haven't always got the time to get the newest promos and restock their record bags,hence many of the same tracks over and over.People like Ferry & Tiesto are busy enough as it is touring,working on their label,producing new tracks,remixing and so on.After all has been done,there just might not be that much time left to go to a record store.But that's no excuse to keep playing the same tracks over and over again over such a long period of time.That's a fundemental problem that trancedjs nowadays have to deal with soon,or else things will get very boring.But then again,people like us on TA are very educated and know of many new tracks long before they even get an official release,so maybe we're just a bit too demanding?

ps: most of cass and sldie productions arent even Breakbeat, except for maybe Spanker. Also Koma and Bones are renowned more for their productions than their DJ sets, so how can they play more of a Koma and Bones style?

and Finally i would hate to see Okanefold cheered on by kids that used to like trance and turn to Oakenfold for their fix of breakbeat, like you. It gives a bad name to the realstuff.

Start reading my posts properly,dammit!!

First of all,I never said that Cass & Slide produced breaks.What I said was that Cass alone plays a lot of breaks in his djsets.And if you "know your shit",you know pretty damn well that this is the truth.

Secondly,Koma & Bones are also DJs.Yes,it is their productions that have made them famous,but they also operate as DJs.And here,they play a mixture of prog/breaks,leaning on the latter.This also influences their productions,one example is their remix of PMT's "Deeper Water".
Their beats follow a straight breakbeat pattern,but the FX and melodies that come in are definately influenced by prog.

Thirdly,I never said that Oakey played ONLY breaks!!You've misunderstood me on this point,I meant that he plays breaks in his djsets nowadays,and that he has expressed his interest for it in a lot of interviews,productions etc.The fact that he plays tracks like the ones I mentioned in my previous post clearly indicates that he has changed his style towards it.

Frankly I like the breaks that Oakey has introduced me to. The only breaks I heard back in the day were crappy Florida Funky Breaks. I would have never listened to tracks like SubHq- The Abyss or anything by the Plump DJs before I started hearing him play this on a more consistent basis.
I think this has been a great move for him to break himself away from the crowded trance DJ crowd. Thanks to him I incorporate a lot of the same type breaks every week when I play out.
I frankly loved the set that has been posted that Oakey recorded for that party931.com site, or whoever it was done for. It had breaks, it had trance and it had progressive house. It was fantastic hearing tracks like that Madonna remix, and still wanting to know who did that Leuroj track (by the beat patterns Im thinking its PMT).
Im going to watch him play tonite in Houston. I guess I will see how many new tracks I hear, or if its going to be a set full of Mekka, and Jan Johnston, and Solar Stone.

All's I can say is that Hybrid and Plump DJs kick ass, whether Oakie spins them or not.

I'll add that back in 1996-97, Oakie used to play lots of breaks. Check his GU compilations...

honestly, you gotta play what ppl want to hear. Nothing is more sick than hearing a new remix of your fav song. But then again, I think everyone is too educated about songs nowadays so whatever they play, everyone knows what song it is and its more obvious when they play it more than once. I wouldnt be surprised if the amount of music that is downloaded exceeds the number of music that is produced. My boy from back home has over 40 gigs of trance songs. Thats sick, and im flippin jealous.

we always listen to the best tracks we have regardsless of how old they are, if we get bored of them we stop playing them, like with djs, if they like a tune for a long time they will play it a long time.
