This sucks indeed because FUR is going to be jampacked now every night and also one I always hated was that annoying hip-hop crowd at main entrance. This should do it like Pacha NY and have locals or something other than hip-hop when you come in. Until they get that 99.5 garbage out of there I will never stepfoot in that crap of a club

mixed feeling on this. the main one being what some people have already brought up in some related threads and that is "what will happen to Global Saturdays".i know that some of these parties didnt bring the crowd the fur owners wanted(hence the reason why glow was welcomed back so easily)but they did get dj's that no one else was going to bring.and it looked like that trend was going to continue into 2009

obviously most people who go to glow/fur/ibiza/old insomina/old nations etc.know why glow left fur to begin with ,and at first i was sceptical at what would happen.but when glow decided to go in a different direction music wise after the move it left me looking for an event to go to on saturdays(or any day).i was glad that the split occured as it seemed that fur was not content to sit back and decided to arange for dj's to play that glow wasnt going to book.

and even though the events werent "jam packed" every week most still had a decent turnout especially for an event that was competing directly with the "place to be seen" club that was literally a stone throws away.

and also because for all the people that screamed for changes in the dj lineup ....when fur/global saturdays did change it up....most still didnt come out anyway.because they were more concerned about how many poeple were going to be there or who they knew that could get them in for free/upstairs/vip etc. etc etc.

now with the return of glow i wonder what the future will hold for possibly seeing not only some of these dj's from global saturday return but also the fresh faces that global was going to bring in.

and of course this now brings up a whole set of question regarding rules and regulations about dress code, glowsticks, etc. etc.all of which will answered in due time im sure

im sure that someone from global will respond either to this thread or another related thread about globals future.if it does end let me say that i i had a blast at every show i attended.you guys brought in artists that no one else had the guts to.i know its hard to book people and bring in a crowd especially against stiff competition but you guys did a great job.im glad i got to see alot of dj's that i thought id never see in D.C.Thank you

personally i loved the idea of having two different events in D.C.without it id hardly ever have went out this year.it reminded me of when buzz and glow were both at thier peak cept reversed (ie glow =buzz/fur=glow)my hope is that global continues so we still have two options in dc on the weekends.time will tell what the future holsds on this i eagerly await an answer.

And for Glow i look forward to your 2009 lineup.

See you all at fur in 2009!!!!!!!

for anybody wondering what will happen to global saturdays:

About Global...

A lot of changes came about in the last few days. A lot of people are asking about Global so here’s a few words. (In case you're not in DC. Glow moved back to Fur in Washington, DC and the Global party that we're doing at Fur is being phased out.) The bookings already set up such as Mark Lewis, ATB, Charles Feelgood /Donald Glaude, Matt Darey and Hybrid will be smoothly be transitioned over and promoted moving forward by Glow at Fur.

A little history about Majai, we've kind of been in the background in the DC scene for while before we came over to Fur in 2007. We were basically working on productions and doing some shows here and there. We got involved with Fur when Glow left in 2007 and Global came about. At the time Fur needed some DJ's and direction in the EDM scene, so we came in to aid Fur in getting up to speed with choosing and booking talent. At the time our track "Lightwave" was getting a lot of support, and so we were making contacts with some agents, as well as a few DJ’s in the scene. We also had an idea of what would work that could compliment the DC scene. Five and Buzz were doing mostly house and other electronic acts and since Glow focused mostly on house DJs at the time, with the exception of the big names such as Tiesto, PvD, Armin, Ferry, etc. We thought that maybe there would be some support for the Trance scene. (Why go head to head with Glow who is an established promotion) Then perhaps we could book some of the up and coming DJs or DJs that have rarely been to DC like Sean Tyas, Gareth Emery, Martin Roth, Airbase, Talla 2XLC, Serge Devant, Thrillseekers, Kenneth Thomas… but with all things, a party takes time to build. It takes time for word to spread, and to build a process of promoting and also DJ’s that have not been to DC also take time to build a following. We got to the point where we were doing the promotions as well as the bookings. We were doing shows almost every Saturday night and things were picking momentum, but then it was decided in Spring 08 that the results did not come fast enough, so we would scale it back to 2 shows per month as well as do some co-events such as Fragma / Thrillseekers, Kyau & Albert / Lange etc. This was going ok. We finally got the promotion wheels moving and things were moving well. Most of the parties were busy but not packed. Then this brings us to Fall 2008…Our recent shows such as Robbie Rivera, Darude did well, but with the recent events Fur decided it would be in the best interest to revive their working relationship with Glow.

I thank Fur for many great shows there and for giving us the opportunity as well as many DC locals that we were able to get in there to spin as well. It was wonderful to experience the many great DJ’s that have been to DC in the past year and a half. I always loved the Fur sound system, and lighting. The club is an awesome club! Many of the DJ's particularly ATB loved the design. The guys at Fur have been very professional and we never experienced any problems that were not uncommon in any major venue that could not be easily resolved.

Fur could have easily promoted just top 40 and hip hop and forgotten EDM altogether but they gave us an opportunity. We sort of fell into the position of promoter’s but it was a great time even though stressful at times. It gave me a lesson of what Glow has been doing for many years in DC and we applaud Glow for keeping EDM going as it is sometimes an unforgiving venture but the EDM music and the crowd it brings is worth it. We wanted to help spread the scene in the U.S. This has been one of our goals for a while even before our promotion with Fur, and still is our goal. We have to face it that EDM is underground here in the U.S., so anything we can do to help spread the scene then we will. So hopefully we stirred things up a little. That was our short term goal. For us it is not about which is better House or Trance. We really enjoy both styles, as well as breaks, tech, minimal, etc... But we realized that with bookings there has to be the balance between the known acts and unknown as well as the styles that can pull the middle crowd. So thanks to those that came out to our shows regularly as that helped sustain the party. We can't make everyone happy but we tried our best. The scene still needs work so if you can help it buy paying for advance tickets for a show or buying a cd or download every bit helps. Ignore the guestlist once in a while and just pre purchase the tickets. The more the club and promoter make the more DJ's they can keep bringing out. I know the economy is tough so hopefully things will turn around soon. Spread the word, and we’ll likely see you in and around the EDM scene. As for what's next... we'll see

-Majai - MK & Anna

a shame.however i have a feeling well see global again in another venue...

i was never really a fan of fur, but they are totally redesigning the main room, which should make things a lot better. that layout sucks. and i'm happy that they are able to move so quickly, rather than having to shut down again while they look for a new place. the reviews i heard from last night were really good, and apparently they were really packed.

I never like how Ibiza's DJ booth was so high. Then again Fur is pretty high also. I think we need a EDM devoted club like Nation was. Many people forget that the Ibiza and Fur even play EDM.
