I'm getting pretty excited for the "THE GIFT" on Dec 13th @ the guv

I totally agree with T_ALI and have had my rants on this many times....I think the biggest disappointment for me in recent memory was danny tenaglia's set in the main room at the guv and derek may's last set at footwork.......i just don't know why dj's can't stay true to their sound..or what used to be their sound...of all of the trends i have seen in the edm scene..this minimal one has to be the most frustrating for me...

You know what I do when DJs I like start playing crap? Find DJs who don't. Nobody's forcing you to follow around the same handful of DJs, you know.

if the sets really bad i'll probably never go out of my way to see them again, if it's just disappointing for expectations of a previously faved dj they've got another shot but 2 in a row i'd give up on them. we're pretty spoilt to have good artists here every week so i'd rather take the memories of an epic show or 2 way back that meant something to me and have someone new blow my mind than put up with 3 or more disappointments from the same DJ over and over again

Well, just like a DJs sound evolves, so should a listener's tastes, imo. Does everyone *really* still religiously listen to the same shit they listened to 5 to 10 years ago?

My fav track ever...I still get the goosebumps. I recall was spun at the Better Days/Pleasure Force/Syrous dec 31 95 party too (meat packing plant!)...and many other late 90's parties...a true anthem.

Apparently Dubfire went to DC10 a couple of yrs ago, and hearing the residents spinning minimal had a profound impact on him, creating the shift in his sound...i.e. "ribcage".

Some change is good, some not so good (why do they have to do an electro remix of all the classics?). There's always crap productions out there and then there are some that are a breath of fresh air. Personal taste is a completely different matter that needs to be taken into account also.

haven't your music tastes changed in time? mine certainly have, i think it's natural that a DJ's tastes would too, how drastically would depend from one to the other. i'm sure they keep a special place for all the tracks that meant something back in the day for them and used to get huge reactions but if everyone else is moving on from the sound it's going to sound like a wayback playback night if you just want to listen to them for nostalgia. artists that always keep the exact same sound (e.g. the strokes, on every track) die a quick death, others that change up and make artistic decisions based on the changes within their genre and surrounding genres (e.g. justin timberlake) will lose some fans and make new ones for what they do, the old fans will still love them for what they used to do and hopefully remember fondly, the new ones will appreciate the evolution of the music

but like I said I really miss Sven Vath's old sound from Omen, Steve Lawler, Dubfire etc...now they all sound soo boring


PS: The only minimal track I'll ever come close to liking is Disconnect by Richie Hawtin.

Psssst: Nobody's gonna tell Dubfire or Lawler that you don't like them anymore.

like I said; Change is always good!! But when I listen to some of my favourite DJs or when they come to TO, I expect to have a good time and not be disappointed/bored.
