My summary:

CDJ-1000MK3's - Get these if you have a lot of money, and don't mind the fact that within the next year Pioneer will release a pro player with features from the CDJ-400 (likely even better, of course). Nothing really wrong with these decks, but they are really pretty no frills for the exorbitant price Pioneer charges based on their legacy.

CDJ-800MK2's - Get these if you want the large platter of the 1000, but don't want to spend the huge price jump for the 1000's for the few features you gain. If you intend to use a DVS (Serato, Traktor Pro, etc.) the 800's + DVS will give you all the features of the 1000 and more (except the .02 accuracy, but that's really not a huge deal).

CDJ-400's - Around the same price as the 800's... but with the accuracy of the 1000's, with effects, USB storage support, and MIDI/HID connectivity. If you don't mind the smaller platter, these are the most advanced Pioneer decks out there. Pioneer clearly left out features like the wave display and hot cues on purpose.

CDJ-200's - A great budget deck. The lack of vinyl emulation will limit your use with a DVS, but for basic mixing they are solid.

You can't really go wrong with any of the Pioneer decks, and if you know how to play on one type, you will have NO issues going to another. And if you do, practice a LOT more

And yes, I've played on them all, and personally have 2 CDJ-1000MK2's.

Buy what you can reasonably afford and feels the best to you.

I will say the MK3's are an industry standard for a reason. Theyre just that good.

Do you have any other info on this? I'd be interested to hear more, I'd certainly consider trading my 1000mk3s in for a later model.....

Nothing official of course, but right now they have the CDJ-400, and if you haven't looked at their MEP-7000 dual deck, it has a LOT of really cool stuff in it.

It's only inevitable that the next step is a pro-level single deck with these features.

I have no problems using my 200s with Serato. Why is vinyl mode necessary? I haven't gotten a chance to use 800s/1000s...

It's just nicer. Don't you find it annoying using stutter mode, since auto-cue doesn't really work the same with Serato?

I always use stutter-mode when DJing. Pinpoints the cue point to the millisecond.

I personally own and use a pair of CDJ400s and I have no problems with them at all theyre great. Would like hot cues on them though ha. Besides that i think after getting the 400s it would be much more beneficial to a DJ to upgrade in terms of mixers and effects units rather than CDJs.

To the comment about only needing 200s to be a proffessional Trance DJ I have to disagree as well. To be a successfull and 'good' DJ, in my opinion, you need to constantly find ways to keep the crowd entertained and excited by keeping a good flow, and unfortunately, just 'letting the tracks breathe' is not a good way to do this. In the long run a DJ will reach a point where he needs the means to play a seamless and well flowing mix; I just don't think you can do that on the 200s.

I don't get what you are trying to say. Do you want to buy cdj units? Or are you arbitrarily bringing up silly conclusions using vague generalities to spark discussion?
Bloghouse electro funk dj...that is awesome, as well as the most pretentious train fuck wreck mish mash of labeling I've come across. Those bells and whistles can be used by anybody if they are used right.
But since you are a "typical trance DJ who wants their tracks to breathe "(whatever that means) I too, doubt you will need extra complexities, seeing as you probably wouldn't even know what to do with them.
So you are right in your own aspect. Your tracks are probably mixed towards the beginning and end, so stick with what you need: nothing more than a set of plain old tables and a good mixer.

That is my opinion.
