Those who partied back in the late 90's early, early 2000's, know what i'm talking about .... the rest might not. If you like HOUSE, then yeah, T.O. is great. but for Hard Trance, Hardstyle, well I guess Europe is the place to be right now.

But, once again, you don't know if you weren't there

I hear you brother. I was into trance since 1993, techno before that, and watched early goa be built on techno and acid house. The scene peaked in year 2000. It is not only the scene, it is the music that is no longer as exciting as it used to be, when it was something that raised hair on the back of your neck, cause it was something so new and out of this world incredible, you thought it was the closest thing to musical utopia. I am very very proud I got to experience this music from it's birth. You can laugh if you want, but the first track with techno beats and bassline that blew me away was possibly by Technotronic - Pump Up The Jam, and then What Time Is Love by KLF, and I started to pick up copies of Techno Traxx double cds from Germany, which had a lot of crappy tracks, but few were just mindblowing. A lot of great techno was coming out from Belgium and another Dutch producer Michiel V. D. Kuy who went on to produce James Brown Is Dead, and much better but less known techno tracks, and before that I listened to his electronica releases since 1983 under aliases like Laserdance, which was the most popular band. Most of my vinyl and cd collection is between 1982 and 1999, well pretty much before Napster, even though my buddy supplied me with some excellent trance prior to Napster through FTP group releses. The music hobby was truly rewarding, and now it seems we are being force fed and flooded with so much music it becomes almost like a job to process it, which is nowhere near as satisfying. I remember the good old days, when Dr.Trance was picking trough record bins next to me at Fresh Records on St.Clair, and before that in Woodbridge, before they closed down. Whatever happened to Lou? Miss the good old Starsound on Yonge St, which most of you may know as Traxx, whcih also closed down at that location. I met a lot of DJ's there every Thursday: Peter The Greek, Tyrone, and of course the Shep, and many celebrities that worked there like Barry Harris of Kon Kan, who is the most down to earth star.

Its not bad to relive the good days of electronic music. Electonic music nowadays sucks in comparison to what it did in the early to late 90s. Back then it meant a lot more to the people producing and spinning it then it does today. It feels like the music is now about the money...whereas back then it was about how the music made you feel.

I keep getting these club trance tracks these days, that sound like turd sound quality wise. People just get a hold of Reason, and start getting a hang of it. Even if the talent part is there, the technical part is crap, and yet it still gets out, and people spin it. The sound card used is probably the shatty X-Fi, where there are no proper highs and no bass, just dirty sounding midrange, and everything else is harsh noise. Even if it is 320k, the track sounds like garbage, cause it was recorded like that. Mastering is another issue. Sometimes, if the track has vocals, it is drowned out by music, and then when you actually hear something, it sounds like a cat being dragged by its tail, and lyrics are just stupid. These types of productions are flooding the scene, and then EDM gets a bad wrap, and people say that it takes no talent to make it. In 95% of the time it stands true, but average listener judges the scene by its crap, because what are the chances they heard that 5% of good stuff. ANd that 5% only gets a passing mark, and perhaps about 0.5% is actully moving.
