Nope I think it's pretty necessary. Our city has a huge deficit. Proposing fare hikes and transportation taxes aren't making him any more popular. So, it makes sense to tax something that's been proven to be detrimental to our health. Do any of you guys know how bad "high fructose corn syrup" is for your health?
New York's (NYC I'm talking about now) been a few steps ahead in things like this, compared to other cities around the country: city bike lanes, leisure/park areas in the middle of the street, "green" taxi requirements, calorie-listing laws in fast food restaurants, etc... On many of these things, other cities around the country are following, or have already followed, in our footsteps. The money's gotta come from somewhere, and if it's from any more rent, gas, property, or miscellaneous taxes we pay, then the government fully understands that there will be millions of people fleeing the city for cheaper pastures.
