These are a lot more than just numbers - they determine how flexible the synth is, offer the sound designer a wider palette of sonic possibilities, etc. When you hear someone talk about how "deep" a synth is, this is what they are referring to. It also generally means that the synth is more difficult to program and more "numbers" usually translate to higher cost (Z3TA+ being an obvious exception).

As far as the sound of the synth goes, well, that's totally subjective, so you can't really do a valid comparison. If you are looking for a popularity contest of which sounds better, Z3TA+ or Sylenth1, then go ahead (as if that hasn't already been done to death - ever heard of kvr.com?), but that still gets you nowhere and I don't think that's what the OP was looking for.

I completely agree, the flexibility of the synth has very much to do with what you wrote.
I´m quite sure that zeta can make a whole lot more complex sounds than sylenth1.
And I do know that there are many people who like zeta very much.

My point was that you cannot judge on what synth is "better" than the other, based on the "numbers". Not in my opinion anyway.
In the end of the day, it´s about the sound. I could go on moog forums
saying my andromeda is much better than any moog - but is it really?
It kills any moog in terms of "numbers", but does it sound "better".
No. (imo)

How do they compare in sound? Zeta sounds pretty bad imo. It just has a tonal
character that´s not very appealing TO ME. Therefore I find sylenth1 to be a lot better, as I really like it´s sound.
It sounds very digital, but crisp and natural.

What!!

Z3Ta is one of the best softsynths ever made!

Yeh Cryo knows what I'm looking for.
Not trying to start a popularity contest but when you're use to one really good synth and something like sylenth starts getting a good rep it makes me wonder if its worth the buy when you already have a beast like z3ta.

It does sound nice off youtube, but I'm still not hearing anything that isn't easily replicated with z3ta. Thanks!

I prefer Sylenth.

It's smart and really sounds like a hardware. Yeah, there's a smooth and warm hardware feel in it's sound...

Z3ta for me sounds a bit more digital, do not have a friendly user interface and it's a cpu hogger since the first versions (very unstable)...

It's up to you really seeing as you've tried both of them. You might only find Z3ta better because you've been using it a lot longer and know much more about it. It couldn't hurt buying Sylenth though, especially during the group buy going on at the moment. They're my 2 favourite Softsynths, but it's really hard to say which ones better, although Z3ta does seem more "capable"...

I don't get why a professional sound designer making a sound set means that the synth is most versatile and easy to use out of all of the options.

Ok I've read more reviews, went out and bought Future Music magazine today because I saw a review in that too when I was at borders. (bookstore)

Its funny how future music actually admits a lot of the synths specs (sylenth) really aren't impressive at all, and its a great write up on it.
They finally say the only thing that truely impressed them was the sound quality it delivers from a rather simple design.

Would I get in trouble for posting the review in here? Its the latest december issue with DeadMau5 in the studio (which sucked).

I think it largely comes down to personal tastes, experience with the synth, and the genre your producing. I got sylenth a few weeks ago and have had z3ta for about 8 months.

In terms of technical capability I would say that z3ta is superior, with 6 oscilators and 32 db / oct filters. However, I have been playing with sylenth lately and I must say I am blown away. The sound palette sounds very close to hardware, very warm, whereas z3ta tends to sound a bit harsher and darker. I would say sylenth takes the cake for sound.

I would recommend anyone doubting the capabilities of sylenth take a listen to Adam van Baker's vol2 sound set for it, Really amazing what he was able to get out of it.

just my 2cents.
