Well, I think it helps me a lot whenever I want to search for new music. Labels (the serious, good ones anyway) generally release music of a certain type. With so much shit being released, it aids in narrowing stuff down.
Truth be told, I haven't really been following the entire "scene" (sic) in at least a year now. There are certain labels I might check more actively (Distinct'ive etc.) but I just don't have the time to pay that much attention anymore...

Ever since I took the big leap into learning how to DJ, I've been paying more attention to labels. If I was just a listener I'd probably wouldn't care that much about them to be honest.
Diynamic
Aus Music
Innervisions (although I must say they've had a relatively slow year compared to some of my other favorites)
be chosen
Cecille/Cecille Numbers
Compost
Liebe Detail (they tapered off toward the end but had a stellar two quarters)
Dial (HUGE releases this past quarter)
Honorable mention: Tsuba
Favorites that had a relatively slow year / labels to watch out for next year:
Deep Vibes
STLHMAudio Recordings
Mood Music (only liked a few releases this year, hopefully next year will hit big with me)
Quintessentials
Running Back

Propulsion. Solid debut album from Nicholas Bennison & some good releases prior to it, keeping trance how it should be, albeit as a lone star usually.

Yeah, must be a tough life trolling TA and policing discogs like a Nazi all day.
In 2008 I liked Nano Recordings, Neurobiotic, Vagalume and Alchemy.

Have been really enjoying the stuff Night Drive Music is putting out lately.
I bought a bunch of stuff from them last time I went music shopping.
As for labels, I couldn't really say myself. I gravitate towards a lot of stuff that's already been mentioned though, mostly through listening to other peoples' mixes and such. Maybe next year I could answer this a little better, I'm still kinda new to most of this.
