Thanks for the help guys - I definitely wanted to post this here because I know there are a fair number of COTA's, and I guess if anything I always feel like knowing a couple folks in a new place can't hurt.

Those of you in Denver, I'll keep you updated as to when I'm coming out to interview - I'm going to try and be out there a few days, and possibly book a gig, while I'm around.

Would be good to meet a few of you all.

I moved to Denver from South FL with practically the clothes on my back. Your transition here will be really easy, if mine was any indication. I found a house out in the burbs to rent right away for ~1200/mo... not particularly wanting to afford that, I moved to an apartment almost as soon as I started looking for one. The place I live now is just south of the city in a really quiet area and at 659/mo, I can afford to do other fun stuff with my meager wages.

It sounds like you already have a good job lined up, but if it says anything about the economy out here, I put an ad out on Monster and was called about 5 minutes later to come in for an interview. Three other businesses contacted me right away [and weren't Insurance companies looking to hire 'representatives'], but I ended up taking that first job.

In short, you will have absolutely no problem affording Denver. The areas in the south metro area are excellent places to live, and even our 'ghetto' - Aurora - really isn't so bad at all, especially when compared to other major cities. But I doubt you'll stoop to $300/mo efficiencies, so you'll probably only venture out to Aurora to buy fire.

Hm, what else can I say? Hookah bars and headshops all around. Some great local blowers and artists here.

There are numerous educational outlets like CSU and CU, as well as Metro state - all are really good schools with an actually good student base, so far as I've experienced.

There's sooo much to do here as far as outdoor endeavors go - skiing/snowboarding of course, but there's also hiking, enormous bike trails that stretch from like, south Denver all the way up to Aspen, state parks all over the place.

Our concert venues also seem to attract some really great musicians, considering that so few actually come from here. As for the dance music scene? Man, fuck if I know. It's fine, I guess? Who dances anymore anyways?

I lived in the midwest for a few years as well and I hated it there. Colorado has a few hicks, sure, but the people here actually are friendly and generally intelligent, which is a rare thing to find in a population.

just moved away from right downtown in August. You are probably looking at 1400-1600 a month for 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment...cheaper as you move out farther of course...

Agreed.

Hal - thanks for the thoughtful response, the way you describe your own move out there definitely makes me feel tons better, and contributes to the growing, but really already raging, hard-on I have to move to Denver.

And Jason - I was thinking more along the lines of one bedroom and/or decent studio apartments.

If you're here for a few days, let me know when, and I can most likely get you accomodations at almost any Hilton hotel for ~$30/night.

Damn. I will definitely be in touch. I should have a better idea in the next couple of weeks when I'll be out there, but I'm assuming it's going to be sometime before the middle of February.

Well make sure to dress in layers when/if you come out here... the weather changes practically every hour. For example, 2 mornings ago, it snowed about 4 inches in the space of 2 hours in the morning... by the afternoon, it was 55 and sunny/clear outside.

Pretty much all of that snow is completely gone by now and it's looking to be about 55 and sunny/clear again today.

Oh, another awesome thing about Denver is the lightrail - it's cheap and fucking easy, and it's above ground so there's naturally less black people frequenting it! It cuts a path of stops right through the middle of the city, so getting around town while trashed has rarely been easier.
