If C4 is still available, you may want to buy that now and take advantage of the free grace period upgrade. Knowing Steinberg's history, C5 is not going to be a stable or reliable DAW for at least a few months (more likely a year) until they release a few updates. By buying C4 now, you have the advantage of using a stable version (4.51) for your serious work, while also having C5 at your disposal (you can have both versions installed on your computer) until the bugs are worked out.

"All European customers who have bought Cubase 4 between December 1, 2008, and March 31, 2009, (GB/DE version) or April 30, 2009, (FR/IT/ES version) are eligible to obtain a Grace Period Update to Cubase 5 at a special price."

/edit
The price is just 20 EUR + shipping, so that's not that bad.

We don't get an automatic grace period in Australia. It's up to the local distributor.

With a new Cubase release you typically want to wait at least 6 months before getting it, especially with the new windows release coming and new chips, wait to see how the updates fix the problems that the initial release almost always has, by then you could also probably find a better deal on it or find a group buy.

A few beta testers who have tried it on Win7 have reported very little issues. Looks promising
