Always thought the Trancemaster series was really good.
(Also among the oldest compilation series)

If you want the Led Zeppelin analogy for trance, then go with anything from Oliver Lieb. Probably Best Of L.S.G. is a good starting point, although you can't go wrong with Rendezvous In Outer Space either.

hmm, i seriously doubt a newbie would appreciate anything hardcore/underground/critically acclaimed

if he's looking to see where the genre is currently at, something commercial like Armin's ASOT 2008 should one way or another point him to whether he likes trance or not

if he's not looking for current the ISOS series should work I guess...

it will point him to 'commercial trance', the easiest to identify with for someone who isnt a seasoned listener of the genre...

whether its shit however is going to be his/her choice isnt it...

But why point someone to that which is easiest to identify with?

OMG, Why do you still hang out with this strange Soemone person? What kind of name is it anyway?

in my experience it helps get newbies on their way, till their tastes get more refined, and they can digest sounds they cant easily identify with in the beginning

however i am generalizing, and if the person in question wants to challenge himself/herself, then throwing commercial out of the window might not be a bad idea...

I'm sure any serious music listener can try "The Best Of L.S.G."

I think the OP already got all the help he needed. I was adressing what this other guy said and i think my inquiry is a valid one.
