i have a sub hooked to to a footswitch so i can kick it on to bang it out and off to make sure there is still enough bass without it. also have it turned down very low.

as I stated I just pointed out the mere facts, the decision will be completly up to you there are pros and cons to both having one and not.

I myself would consider acoustic treatment of my studio before buying a sub. You can get some good stuff like diffusors, dampeners etc. for fairly good prices.

I would also prioritize an automated DSP system like the one genelec has for their A-ranges. Will most deffo give you more bang for the buck than a sub

i would set it up in a way where you can toggle between sending signal to it and not like how zild does. Turn it on to get a feel of how it would sound in a club, etc. but turn it off when you gotta do them mixdowns.

I was never into getting a sub (or even monitors really) before I saw Robert Babicz in a room with some big subs. Then I realised how much of his sound (which I love) is based on really tight mixing in the low end, and decided that perhaps a sub would be worth looking at. I think it depends on what music you're making and what sort of sound you want though.

Same thing here, and it really helps to have one a and togle back and forth when mixing. Either way when you get one it will change the way your mixes sound in your room so it will take some getting used too. My advice is to buy a sub that was meant to be paired with your monitors, not just some random sub you find somewhere

don't buy a sub unless you have acoustic treatment in your room already. you will overload the low end and your mixes will go to shit.

how big is the room you are planning on putting it in?

Has anyone concidered that a subwoofer removes all the stereo width in the low end? After comparing to a subwoofered system and not, it's amazing how much fatter the bass is in certain genres/tracks.

This only happens on crap subs that have a high cut off... Good subs cut out at 150hz or less, where there is no directionality.
