I don't trust the whole vertical standing thing. I never did. Never did it with my PS2, or my PS3, or my 360. It just seems like it fucks up things more often than not.

Yeah that's always seemed a bit akward to me. Surely optical drives are much more stable when horizontal?

I would think so. Whenever I put a game into a system that is standing vertical at a friends house or whatever, the disc is just dangling there, resting on that little lip thing that prevents it from falling out. It just looks like a bad idea, even if it does indeed work.

I don't mind the verticle placement on the Wii, but it's a slot-insert, not a tray, so it seems more stable to me.

I don't think I've ever seen a Wii NOT be placed vertically. It seems that was the point of the design all along. I'll agree that the slot-insert makes the entire concept more stable, and that goes for the PS3 as well. I just get nervous with Sony's console since the damn thing is so bulky; although it would be near-impossible to knock over (unless somebody fell into it), it just LOOKS clumsy. I don't trust it. But the Wii is different.

LOL, PS3 certainly IS an example of how NOT to design a console. You'd think they'd learn after the original XBox fiasco. People don't want hulking behemoths sitting in their living room.

No, but people want a piece of junk they have to send in for repairs every six months.

People are strange.

When it comes down to it, the PS3 is the most reliable, but its the most bulky. The 360 is not as bad in that respect, but its terrible underneath the hood, as it breaks down all the time.

So I guess the Wii wins this one. It's the smallest, works out well, but is also home to a lot of shitty games meant for people who don't really play video games.

A low percentage of the machines actually break down. Out of the 20 or so people I know who own a 360, 2 have had to send theirs in for repairs. One guy because he left it in front of a heat vent on the floor.

Even after that, an even lower percentage have to be sent in for repeat repairs. There are 25 million XBoxes in the world, and a few thousand overtly faulty machines at most, that you can get repaired 3 times before they make up the cost of a PS3.

Also, the games are better, the controller is much more comfortable, and since there are more users, there's more players on XBL.

Yup, value's a bitch.

3 years, no problems, sitting horizontal on a dresser top, well away from any heating vents, and my cats know they're getting tossed across the room if they come within a foot of the damn thing.

i turn mine off when i'm done, it just sits in a tv stand with no doors and very open back end.

i only play nhl and it runs from the HDD and it is not standing up.

i dont know why i have such bad luck. at least its still under warranty.

Mine's not vertical because it fits perfectly on top of my tower speakers.

Also, it's kind of funny, I have both of the behemoths in my living room, the old Xbox and the PS3. There are wires everywhere behind my entertainment center.

Oh, and my cousin just sent his Xbox back after he red-ringed. It was one of the factors I considered when buying the PS3, along with the yearly Xbox live membership fees and the Blu-Ray player.

For the original Xbox, the weakest link was the power supply they used, which was a tad underpowered, and some of the drives they used were shitty. The units that received the Phillips drives were much better, but still kinda shitty. The rest of the components were good. The 360 seems to have been built with shit components all the way around.

I agree with NOT mounting the consoles vertically...except for the Wii's which hold up well and rarely have any component failures. PS2 Slims are fine to mount vertically but I would still mount it horizontally to limit extra wear on the drive motor and laser mechanism. PS3 should definitely not be mounted vertically.
