maybe because we are doing some good to this country, hm?
and Yohan, were your parents born here? if yes, how about your grandparents? do you really think that if everyone had some an attitude towards immigrants, you would be living here right now?

up to this point, I have put a lot of money into Canadian economy through the money my family and I paid for my education. I am also paying taxes like everyone else in this country. I'm also paying taxes for free health care I have no access to since June. I wonder how is that considered milking Canada

i am not arguing that immigrants bring nothing to canada. hell, canada was built on immigration

of course there are plenty of hardworking immigrants. hence why i said 'a lot of immigrants'. that is still not saying there is no give and receive relationship between immigrants and canada

as for my parents, both of them have lived in canada for over 17 yrs (my mom actually went to school at Mount Allison) and they are two of the hardest working people I know.
but their attitude (well, more my dad than my mom) is that they are not impressed with Canadian culture at all and the reason why they came to Canada was for the benefit of their family. could give a rat's ass what goes on in Canada as long as it does not involve them. my parents work hard not to benefit canada, but to benefit my family

point is that because canada is too accepting, and there is no imposition of something akind to Canadian identity on new immigrants, because we say it's ok to be more proud of your homeland than Canada, new immigrants feel no reason to have a pride in Canada.

most immigrants come from a culture that is more steeped in tradition and history and heritage than our young nation, and sees Canada as inferior culture and no reason to adapt to canadian ways. this may be a bit of ignorance, but i can see why they would think so

those that know me do know that i'm about as patriotic canadian as they are out there. but i'm not a typical immigrant, i'd guess

ah
fair enough!
since my parents never came with me, I can only judge from my own prespective.. and for me moving to Canada was just to simply build my own future here. Canada has given me great friedships and for that I'm forever greatful!

Canadians aren't slowly losing their identity imo. It's already gone. It's all the immigrants I tell ya!

Edit: oh, and Molson Canadian commercials.

I went to French Catholic elemantary school there (Brossard), and we also sang Oh Canada every day. It's probably different nowadays.

you're so old that what you are saying is totaly true. Oh Canada was the anthem for the French Canadians, while God Save the Queen was sung by English Canadians... Oh Canada was actually written for the St-Jean Baptist holiday, by the now very separatist St-Jean Baptist society.

people forget that.

Now Oh Canada is the Canadian anthem and that is why no one cares about it here anymore.

Who the fuck cares? It's a boring song, nothing more. We don't need a national anthem to instill national pride, we need something worth being proud of!
