Ppl have to remember that religion in one form or another has been around for thousands of years. So many times in history ppl were killed or "converted" if they didn't agree with religious doctrine of that time. The "Atheism movement" would never have been tolerated by any religion in the past.

I was calling the Freethought Association of Canada idiots..

and yes I do see it as a scam. But lets put it this way...

They're collecting atheists and agnostics together with this "movement" and what happens when you have people collectively believing in something? a religion or cult

have a look at their objectives

quote:
Freethought Association of Canada Objectives:

(i) To advance education by providing workshops, seminars and conferences on topics relating to atheism, agnosticism, humanism and skepticism.

(ii) To establish and operate a resource library for materials pertaining to atheism, agnosticism, humanism and skepticism.

(iii) To educate the public through open dialogue between groups of various faiths and beliefs on topics related to religion and secular worldviews.

(iv) To provide educational, volunteer, and counselling services for students in the community.

They are collectively NOT believing. They are making it ok to NOT believe. They are not telling anyone what they should and shouldn't think so how can they be a religion or a cult????????

+1

I see them all time. The bible study ads and other random passages from the bible, or whatever you want to call it.

The ads aren't out there to preach about the religion, but they are religion focused ads.

*sigh*

I wrote up a few paragraphs but decided its pointless... lets just put it this way...if you believe in God, you practice your faith and if not, you just do nothing and "enjoy life".

and now, it's atheism's turn to persecute the religions? (Soviet Union anyone?)

I understand what you were trying to get at.

They are trying to bring all of the atheists/non-believers together and essential through education and seminars bestow a way of thinking on life and in turn essentially create their non-religious religion...

The point of the ads are great...but the values and beliefs behind Freethought Association of Canada might not be so...

Good job... so atheists are not comfortable in just their own beliefs, they need to actually convince others to disbelieve?

Like you know... all those horrible religions do?

It says a lot.
