I wouldn't say that hardware is better, even though I have used hardware for several decades now and currently have 9 hardware synths. It's just a different way of working and, for me, the ability to turn knobs, press keys, etc. without having to stare at a monitor or be tethered to a mouse is much more inspirational way of working. Also, I don't care how many people try to tell you that software can perfectly emulate analog synths, I'm not buying it. But, that doesn't mean analog is better, just different. I have no qualms about using soft synths, samplers, romplers, or even virtual analog hardware (I also own a Virus and a Micro Q). Hell, I'll even admit that Rob Papen's Blue and Spectrasonics Atmosphere (a software rompler) are still two of my favorite "synths" of all time, and that includes hardware or software.
My comments above had nothing to do with hardware being better than software. What I'm saying is that, all these newbies act like deadmau5 is some freaking genius who has invented a revolutionary new sound, when the fact of the matter is that I can punch my way through the factory presets on my Voyager and find almost, if not exactly, the same sounds that he uses, and many of those (or similar) sounds can be found on Moogs from 30 years ago. And, yes, I can emulate those sounds very convincingly in my Mopho or Prophet 08, my Virus, and even many of my soft synths, but if you want the real deadmau5 sound, get a Moog.
