Jesper, I've been following your work for quite some time. I recall you always had a very simple set up consisting of a computer, MIDI controller, tiny mixer and monitors.
Your video really humbled me and made me re-think my set up to the point where I decided to dump most of my gear. This was the last drop... as I sat there and watched you accomplish so much without messing around with wiring, extensive MIDI routing issues, line hum, etc. Just a very "spartan" and effective set-up made me realize how much time I've actually wasted on dealing with issues not directly related to making music.
I got a copy of Ableton Live 7 and started going through the lessons and just watching your videos. Within literally hours I was able to put together a very simple track that would have previously taken me days with "hardware".
I'm now stripping down my "studio" to bare essentials and plan to take that leap to soft-synth realm.
I wanted to find out - having arrived from the opposite side of that spectrum - e.g. soft synths, do you ever find yourself limited by the software (aside from the obvious - e.g. hands-on control) where you say "Damn, I wish I had some actual synths to work with"? Ever have the urge to shell out some dough for tangible piece of noise-making gear?

And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true. |

Ive only been producing for year and a bit , and i feel the same way as you but opposite.I have only worked with softsynths and i now have my first bits of hardware , but i find linking all of the softsynths controllers to your hardware piece can make a big difference to what you can get out of a soft synth , like you can make adjustments that will take ages with a mouse and program it like you would a normal hardware synth.
