I am an arod fan and he gets NO CREDIT! He did NOT COME OUT! Sports Illustrated accused him of failing the test thanks to some sources. he easily could have said it was slander and defamation of character, but instead said "ask the union" what does that tell you? most people if accused will deny or come clean. he didnt, and this was 2009. I give him credit only if say 2003 after the test, he had come out and said his drug test had come back as a fail and that he had used some banned substances in 2001-2003.

All those MLB players take roids in one way or another. Its the only way to make an even playing field.

Look at Barry, he fucking BLOWS UP in his 30's. That shit aint normal, of course he was HGHing and juicing you have to be pretty stupid to think that he got that big in his 30's on his own.

Even Sosa was cornered and was playing stupid about roids, he just got lucky and didn't get grilled like other players.

Gonna have to disagree with you there on being a first-year HoF'er. Sure the guy had a break-out rookie season and the tainted home-run record years, but the dude had a .263 career average and being in the '500' club anymore does not constitute an automatic entrance imo. Think of people like Eddie Murray who got in, but was one of the last '500' members before the roids controversy came into play. His induction was a little iffy and probably given out of respect for that club (maybe the 3,000 hits did him in too).

Anyway, McGwire was good, but I don't know about HoF good. All the guy did was swing for the fences.

I think in the long-term, people will see A-Rod's use the least critical of all the major players.....and here's why.

1. He is admitting it. He's not pulling a Roger Clemens and denying the obvious. And he isn't Mark McGuire, who is hiding from the world instead of facing the truth
2. The media, as usual, is being a tad short sighted and is talking a tad a little about how his numbers dipped between 2003 and 2004...after he he stopped using them.

The way I see it, it was his first year in NY adn that in itself was a lot of pressure and it took him that season to get used to the environment. Since the 2004 season, his numbers have gone back up. He hit 54 home runs in 2007. It dipped down in 2008, but so did the whole team. And unlike when he was on the Rangers and stuff where they sucked so bad pitchers could always safely pitch to him because the Rangers were usually losing, how he is pitched to while playing with the Yankees is largely determined by how the batteres in front of him and and behind him are doing. His extra base hit totals were still actually near where they were in 2001-2003, though. And he still hit above .300.

My point is that his numbers when he hasn't been using steroids are near what they were when he was on them in general. So the steroids, to me, didn't greatly improve his game in the same way they largely improved other player's games. In time, when people can reflect on his whole career, think more and more people will see this.

Assuming he really did stop using...

Oh, and I'm a die-hard Yankee fan. When Giambi "admitted" to using, I hoped they would string him up and hang him out to dry. It was painfully obvious when he quit using PEDs as his average, power, and health declined drastically.

The steroid era deserves a footnote in the MLB record books. Not an asterisk, but a footnote. Both pitchers and hitters have been caught or admitted to taking steroids. I think it's safe to assume cheating ran rampant on both sides of the ball and thus no records can be written off.

after thinking about this, i gotta agree with you on this now.

but still a little confused. were the drugs they were using banned? or were they banned afterwards? or we they banned and just undetectable? never really followed the situation. I'm not the biggest baseball fan

(but Go A'sssssssss!!!!!)

Yeah that's the big question. People I know out of Miami (I'm a huge Cane's fan) have heard rumblings about him using it...way back when he was in HS. Like, they heard about it back then! But he would be stupid if he were trying to get away with it these days...

And yeah, it was obvious about Giami. But Rodriguez has never grown or shrunk...then again, the steroids he reportedly took didn't make you bulk up.

And I'm a life-long Yankees fan myself.

In all honestly, at this point I don't see the point of holding the usage against anyone. Sure, look down on them a bit, but the use was obviously apart of the everyday environment of the game and I do believe a lot of players started taking them becase of pressure as other players around them got better and bigger. I hold Bud Selig and MLB responsible for not controlling the players. And I think far more payers than anyone thinks was on the stuff......especially since there are steroids that don't make you bulk up making you look less suspicious.

How ironic that he decides to publicly apologize the same morning as Obama signs a $787B bill. Way to hide your headline!

A-Rod's press conference coincides with the opening of Spring Training. It's purely coincidental that the stimulus bill is being signed on the same day.
