You want to enter the scene and play on your terms even though there are many established Montreal DJs that have trouble getting gigs because the competition is tight. Interesting logic.

what's sad dude it's a business. If you owned a bar would you be like ''ok dude I like your music a lot so I'll book you even though you are a nobody coming out of your mom's basement...I know you can't bring me people because you don't know anyone, you are 18, but that's cool...I really like your music so I will put in all the efforts myself to make sure people discover you and come to my club''?
Here's a quick success story for you though: I remember 3-4 years ago, King Richard...he was 19 years old...spinning at Sofia's part time and studying at Mcgill...the kid was so talented that balroom hired him right away when they heard him spin at the restaurant one night. Even back bthen he was able to draw a small McGill crowd. 4 years later, tons of people only go to Balroom on St-Laurent because he is spinning there.
But trust me, he's got mad mixing skills, top notch track selection, he looks pretty good, interacts with the crowd, and even does his own mash ups and productions.
Richard was mixing in his basement countless hours every week so he became really really good....but he is also extremely talented..more than most DJs I know.
Since he started at balroom he spent some time with Vivie-Ann and now he is producing with Danny Torrence...

If someone really truly does have talent and is not lazy I believe the hard work will pay off eventually. Also just because you buy the latest tracks on beatport don't think people will come after you for booking. Beatport is like Mc Donalds.. cheap and easy food, if you want that good unique stuff you gotta go elsewhere.
