Let's go over this again.

$5.5 billion for making federal buildings "green" (including $448 million for the Department of Homeland Security's headquarters) =jobs
$198 million to design and furnish the DHS headquarters =jobs
$200 million for workplace safety in Department of Agriculture facilities =jobs
$75 million for the Smithsonian Institution =jobs
$300 million more for hybrid and electric cars for federal employees (see below)
$180 million for construction of Bureau of Land Management facilities =jobs
$500 million for wildland fire management =jobs
$110 million for construction for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service =jobs
$522 million for construction for the Bureau of Indian Affairs =jobs
$412 million for Centers for Disease Control headquarters =jobs
$500 million earmark for National Institutes of Health facilities in Bethesda, Maryland =jobs
$100 million for constructing U.S. Marshalls office buildings =jobs
$300 million for constructing Federal Bureau of Investigation office buildings =jobs
$800 million for constructing Federal Prison System buildings and facilities =jobs
$307 million for constructing National Institute for Standards and Technology office buildings =jobs
$1 billion for administrative costs and construction of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration office buildings =jobs
That spending was added to an earlier version of the bill, which also benefited federal employees by splurging on things such as the following:
$600 million to buy hybrid vehicles for federal employees
$125 million for the Washington, D.C. sewer system =jobs
$75 million for salaries of employees at the FBI
$6 billion to turn federal buildings into "green" buildings =jobs
$88 million for renovating the headquarters of the Public Health Service =jobs
$5.5 million for "energy efficiency initiatives" at the Veterans Administration's "National Cemetery Administration" =jobs
$60 million for Arlington National Cemetery =jobs
$75 million to construct a new "security training" facility for State Department Security officers when they can be trained at existing facilities of other agencies =jobs
$110 million to the Farm Service Agency to upgrade computer systems =jobs
$200 million in funding for the lease of alternative energy vehicles for use on military installations

And then there are these:
$2 billion for a FutureGen near-zero emissions powerplant in Mattoon, Illinois =jobs
$2 billion for manufacturing advanced batteries for hybrid cars =jobs
$650 million for the digital TV (DTV) transition coupon program
$1.2 billion for summer jobs for youth =jobs
$200 million for public computer centers at community colleges and libraries =jobs
$750 million earmark for the National Computer Center
$10 million to fight Mexican gun-runners
$850 million for Amtrak (on top of its regular subsidy) =jobs
$100 million for lead paint hazard reduction =jobs
$275 million for flood prevention =jobs
$65 million for watershed rehabilitation =jobs
$650 million for abandoned mine sites =jobs
$1.3 billion for NASA (including $450 million for "science" at NASA)
$100 million to clean up sites used in early U.S. atomic energy program =jobs
$10 million for urban canals =jobs
$1.5 billion for carbon capture projects under sec. 703 of P.L. 110-140 (though the original section only authorizes $1 billion for five years) =jobs
$500 million for state and local fire stations

In addition, an incredible amount of the money in the bill will help states like California and countless others facing huge budget shortfalls because of the economic downturn keep key social services programs, and cut less in education and other areas. This money is sorely needed and it's going to go very far in helping states get through this tought time.

This is a massive infusion of money into projects all accross the United States. Sitting on our ass while the economy goes to shit and just giving more money to banks is not going to cut it, and thankfully the president and the administration understands this.

the problem with obama and the myopic-thinking reactionaries opposing him is that obama isn't trying to treat the symptoms of a disease, he's looking for a cure. his goal isn't to jump start the same UNSUSTAINABLE economy we had a few years ago, he's trying to shift our staggering one towards a MORE SUSTAINABLE model. what we had at the turn of the century was never going to last. it's best we learn that now before we strip our nation of all of its resources trying to figure it out. what good would revitalizing a housing market be? has anyone thought of the consequences of every person in this country being a homeowner? the cost of suburban sprawl on every one of our resources is staggering. do some research on the urban srawl and the population problem.

Nobody complained? I sure did! All three of these "stimulus" bills have been an absolute joke.

I thought that was the problem in the first place, all the bad mortgages. How does this bill ease the loss of all of those, and save homeowners and banks?

Do a little more research and you'll see that the 'stimulus' plan is to stimulate the economy by creating more jobs.

TARP is for banks and unfreezing the credit market.

Social sevvice programs? you mean like giving $500 tax refunds to those that have $0 tax liablilty and thus dont pay tax?

Recessions historically last approx 18 months, so following history it would be over by years end anyway. Even Obama has no idea if this will work. They are just doing SOMETHING for the sake of doing Somthing. Ever think you can actually make it worse?

Yeah, like I said, I already thought about it longer than you and the dipshits on TV have. They're hardly doing something for the sake of doing something, all the money in this bill is going towards great shit (if you're progressive).

Complain all you want anyway, we're gonna get it passed and you'll just have to deal with it.

Homeowners should not be saved. It was their own fault for making a stupid decision to buy something they couldn't possibly sustain. I afford my mortgage just fine and took account all the risk and such when I bought my house 4.5 years ago. Don't reward the idiots and punish the people who pay in good faith.
