I only introduced my friends to Risk recently. People piss me off because from turn one they're always trying to make alliances and suck everyone else's dick. I just sit there in stony silence and attack whoever's in my way. Very rarely do I make a deal or a truce
Also, for anyone interested, there is a great freeware version of Risk available for computer.
I've been playing this version for about six years now. It's a great way to pass the time at work. You can play online against other people or by yourself.

lol-risk is more than the game...it shows where the real trust is. There are probably a few alliances forged before the first dice is rolled. Watch the sneaky ones when they go for a smoke break.
i cant count the times my "greenland europe peace treaty" was trampled on...i learnt a process of slow but equal proliferation of forces!

Not playing many board games these days, but I'm really big on Settlers of Catan (though it can become absurd depending upon the trading principles of the people involved).
As for Monopoly, as much as I love playing it, there is always some technical hang-up on the rules, either because the people you play with don't understand certain aspects of it (or vice-versa), or have adopted a unique playing scheme unto themselves (again, possibly a result of them having not understood certain aspects of the rules, or (again) vice-versa).

hands down my favourite
I remember playing it with my immediate family this past Christmas after all the guests left and we were all shitfaced... amazing
also
Guess Who, Clue, Game of Life, Scrabble, Pictionary
edit: I hate Monopoly. Whether I am winning or losing, I have no idea what the fuck I am doing. Giving someone a run for their money gives me no pleasure.
