Can't really compare the focals or adams to mackies - they're in completely different price brackets (i.e. more than double the cost).

Mackies are great monitors for the money (especially second hand) and do offer better bass response than just about any 6" monitor I can think if in the same price bracket (partly because you can pick up second hand mackies really cheap now). They are great speakers and you should be able to good sounding mixes on them all day.

Having said that, they do have their limitations, so if you can afford more (i.e. $2000) then go for the focals as the quality increase is significant.

As for 2.1, IMO, you should stay away. Too many variables, I never think they sound right, room treatment becomes more crucial, (etc.) and frankly it's not necessary as good near field monitors are all you that you need for making EDM. It's just more hassle and overkill when good monitors can work as well if not better.

been doing a bit of research and the Yahama HS80M's have had some really good reviews, might be going for these. adam, focal, and genelec are all too expensive for me .

That probably isn't much of an improvement over what you have. Save your money is my advice. At the very least pick up a used pair of Mackies. If not a used pair of A7s.
