The Reader was amazing! I thought Kate Winslett deserved that Oscar as she was so compelling....wow I was in awe of her performance in that movie

So true... the movie wouldn't have been half as good without the young actors... they were unbelievable!

They were amazing but I also commend this movie to opening at least a bit of the world of Bollywood to North American audiences. I grew up on Bollywood movies and it's nice to see friends more keen on looking into other movies of this genre due to Slumdog's success.

The Reader really wasn't that great of a film. Kate Winslet was amazing but overall the film was okay.

Slumdog was great, and deserving of a few wins. Im sure Sean Penn winning was a surprise to a lot since Mickey was the front runner for some time. Even though I loved the Wrestler (probably my favourite film this season), Sean Penn was fantastic in Milk. That was a tough one.

I was so happy Sean Penn won. Milk was my favorite move of 2008.

I would have been okay if Mickey won.. he was my second choice.

I liked The Wrestler more than Milk. The category I was most interested in though was Documentary. I loved both Man on Wire and Encounters at the End of the World. It was a toss up over which one I wanted to win more, but was rooting for Man on Wire - it was one of my favorite movies of the year, left the theater with a smile on my face when I saw it.

While I agree with Slumdog getting some Oscar kudos, I think its a bit overhyped...there were better films...but I think the Academy is an extension of the feelings felt by everyone: Slumdog was a great feel good film, I mean how many movies can pull of deliberate blinding of a child and torture by electrocution and still be considered "feel good" ? Its almost like the movie was an allegory for the ending of the last 8 years in US politics, and Hollywood is especially sensitive to that.

As for Micky Rourke not winning, I haven't seen the film, but crocodile tears from me....I've met him and he is such an asshole...I almost got into a bar fight with him at an afterhours! I guess its easy to be a tough guy when you have a bodyguard to back your drunk ass...

It was all political in my opinion. I agree with you Lighthouse. Very much overhyped.

I watched 4 of the 5 best picture nominations and Slumdog was not the best from what I saw. It was a great story non the less, but it did not carry the power of acting like The Reader, Milk and Button brought to the table. A best picture winner to me is something that leaves you moved and wanting more.... and the actors are a key component in that respect. The acting in Slumdog was ok.

Best Cinematography.... Dark Knight. That was movie cutting and splicing at its best.

So happy that Sean won. Just saw Milk yesterday afternoon and his performance was by far one of the best I’d seen in a long time. I love Sean and how he can just get into every role that he does like he is that person. It is incredible.

This film is NOT a Bollywood film. Danny Boyle directed the film. Just because the movie is filmed in Mumbai does NOT make it a Bollywood film.

BTW I haven't seen Milk but I am truly disappointed Rourke didn't take the oscar. His performance was unmatched.
