The method of the amateur is to be perpetually insecure about whatever gear you have instead of sitting down, learning to program your synths, and pushing them to their limits. Just use what you've got to the fullest while also staying on the lookout for stuff that might improve your sound. There's no need for this endless and stupidly general discussion of "hardware versus software."

I love almost all of Maor Levi's stuff, and its almost all software (or used to be all software). I mean lets be honest sure i would love to buy an V.TI but it doesnt mean it will make me a better producer, in someways i think it will make me worse. I feel like it would kill my workflow and make me go more towards the "please let this sound fit" route.

The method of the amatuer is to derive whatever sound he is looking for by whatever means he chooses.
Hard or soft.
The professional takes those sounds and makes you forget or care less that those sounds are coming from software or hardware, good music is all that matters.

the more talented/skilled you are the less you care about the gear.

software synths are just a lame excuse for bad producers!

Yes but skill could also interest you in specific gear because it might have the qualities you are looking for .

Indeed. And if something sounds better to you then use it.

yes, right. but the gap gets smaller and smaller if you build up your skills.

i own quite some hardware synths aswell. but wouldn't tell anyone that i own them because they are better than software. it's just different and in the end: shit in -> shit out
