They should meet halfway at 162.5. :P

I think Penn would actually win.

No he's 185-190.

He WEIGHS IN at 170. That is, after 15-20 pounds being lost through dehydration and such, he's 170. By the time of the fight, he's actually 185-190. I wouldn't be surprised if Penn was a natural 154 at his weigh-in, maybe 160-165 at max.

As someone who teaches jiu jitsu (gi and no gi), yeah no gi is slippery but I didn't see BJ come even close to submitting GSP with a triangle. all other no gi submissions work basically the same greased or not. If you have the right position you'll get it, otherwise natural sweat would be enough for him to slip out of a lock anyway. try escaping a tight arm bar while sweaty, you won't if the guy is doing it right. by the second round it wouldn't make much difference either way in my opinion.
His corner put a bit of Vaseline on his face between rounds (they are allowed to and everyone does it to help prevent cuts) and yeah it looked like he rubbed his back and neck with one hand (pretty half assed though) but there didn't even appear to be any even on his face at that point so I can't imagine much if any made it to his back. Between each round you could clearly see an official towel off GSP's shoulders seconds before the next round would resume. any Vaseline still on him at that point would have been taken off. I saw Penn try to slip his guard up high on GSP at the start of the second round but sweat alone would have made that hard and every time he did it GSP just postured up anyway.

Watch the tapes, Penn was done by the end of the first round. the 'grease' didn't play a role if any until the second round and by then gsp was already dominating too much. Penn had a punchers chance.

I would say 180. Anything over is pushing it.

On average, a fighter loses 15-20 pounds for the weigh-in. GSP is at LEAST 180, probably 185, and possibly 190.

GSP was 185 in the fight and Penn prolly was 175 after Taco Bell. Its not the weight that made the difference its the Chalumpa

and that's on fight night. he regularly walks above 190, I'm sure. BJ probably didn't have to cut at all, which is beneficial from a cardio standpoint. killing yourself to cut weight, if you're not used to it, can ruin you.

watch a fighter's first fight when they move down in wieght class (e.g. Vera)...horrible energy/cardio if they had to cut a lot of weight. unless they're a wrestler, as they're used to it.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/news;_y...=yhoo&type=lgns

"St. Pierre said he was about 187 pounds going into the cage, nearly 20 pounds heavier than Penn (13-5-1), who weighed in at 168 pounds and was likely right at that weight going into the cage."

There's no way Penn was 175. He likely weighed in at his natural weight, and he weighed in at what, 168?

My argument has never been that the fight was decided on weight, btw. Just that GSP was most definitely well above 170 by fight night, while Penn was probably still 168.
