At this very moment someone is thinking how this could be used in the porn industry.

I guess you could project a slut onto the wall and depending on your 'hand gestures' she could do various things.

I studied visual communication at a high level and my favourite module was digital technology, I was absolultly immersed in it, and loved every lecture and discussion group. It really is fascinating.

The thing is most people don't understand it, or are pessimistic about technology...

Some aspects which I picked up in my thesis.

- Future technologogy exists, but often to expensive to implement on the current market. An example would be placing computer chips on all the products at a supermarket and then once your shopping has been completed, walk out of the store with the computer scanning all your purchased products..
Until the price of the chips come down this technology is not viable.

- Technology concepts exist, but often waiting for new technology to be introduced to become usable. Example Leonardo Da vinci inventing the contact lens during the 1400s only to have to wait for a material to be developed to create the actual product.

- Future technologogy exists but sometimes the market is not ready for it to be implemented.. Example would be reading a book from an ipod.. Or a concept car which just wouldn't fit in.

Raymond Loewy

Quoted.. Most advanced yet affordable - MAYA.

Its an interesting subject which everyone should explore.

This is easily viable, lots of supermarkets are now introducing RFID tags into products. They pick up an induced current from scanners, so you can walk out of the store and have everything scanned as you leave. No more queueing.

Not going to be used anytime soon, as there'd be massive layoffs as staff wouldnt be needed. Every union to do with cashiers would go apeshit. So yeah, its a brilliant idea but wont happen anytime soon.

And of I'm buying something I do what I always do have a look at it. Maybe buying electronics would look into it, but then I'd look on the net not when I'm in the shop.

I say of limited overall use. Effectively a projector and human interface, very much like those projected keyboards.

yeah, but the professor's not claiming to bring this into markets anytime soon. It's just concept demonstration at this point of time.

This is more than a projector with a human interface. This is complete internet on the go, connected to the real world through some cool image processing software layer. It does so many thing already! It recognizes hand signals and take photos, checks flight schedule by reading the bar code on tickets, advises which books to buy based on amazon ratings when you are already in the book shop, flashes key words for individuals through face recognition...and what's more, it projects this information anywhere you want. It can project a numeric pad on your hand and then place a call by recognizing what you are dialing. I mean, this is incredible! He might as well have used a projector screen embedded in his glasses to read the information instead of projecting it somewhere. Maybe that'll come later on.

I think this piece of technology has limitless applications.

not as a seperate device.

My price mark was around $1000 for the unit then. (but it also included other options.. and the addition of nodal and clutering and wireless periphrials, etc.. (and integration to my other technologies, including intelligence systems (which would benifit from clustering of the units)

The projection system was only one display method.. I touted.. the goggles - .. which are available commercially today.

Why don't you make a video and show us what your design can do ?

Commercial value is minimal. Practical use is almost neglible. As a product it did have product neiches, But it is not realizable for myself to launch it because I would need support of major carriers, and they work with major companies. the startup capital to compete doesn't exist and it is a locked market.

I highly doubt people would buy my smart phone for the 10,000$'s itd take to produce just because it has wifi capacity(meaning freevoip calls via wifi), unlocked, VR enabled, goggle based eye movement HID, voice activation, capacity to cluster with other units (actually I called this the X (before ms came out with the name xbox (this is up there with.. yah I made the name for the xbox, (right up there with the name blackberry came from lazardises late night trip to the tim hortons store I worked at.. err)(cause the world revolves around me.. whatever)

lots of other neat add ins, but who has $10,000 for this thing? Likewise who is going to invest in the company. Especially if the other major phone companies etc.. will just do a knock off product anyway. Its not that they can't make these things, it is just that they don't need to yet.. if they come out with the best right away people won't buy newer "improved" units.

None the less, it is "one step" programming - it gets far more involved. Eg. this said esp stuff --- just providing baseline information. There are other cell capacities. == the thing is though I don't like the end product, I'm not a totalitarian, so why would I want to speed up the police state?

IP laws are another major concern. Even if I make the "new and improved" technology - other people own subcomponents to build it.

It is largely a matter of use.. and that is part of it right there.. that is why the big companies have the advantage

can you please just shut the fuck up?

this could be useful to read cdrs without labels. I wonder what it could do for techno and electronic music.

The scientist cannot capture the whole cosmos in thought. In his mind he makes a kind of microcosm, which we see as an analogue of the cosmos. In this way we try to get a feeling for the whole. The artist, I suppose, gets a feeling for the whole some other way.”
