The transmitter I now have (the $20 one) works perfectly, everywhere. The tiny amount of static that I do get I barely notice (and I'm a damn picky mother******, I'd rather listen to the radio than a static iPOD), and generally only occurs under overhanging wires. I figure the secret is all those expensive ones have long 1-2foot wires that connect the iPOD to the cigarette lighter, whereas the cheap Canadian Tire version uses a 4 inch wire, so it doesn't pick up the weak radio signals the way the poorly-designed, expensive ones do.
My post was really just highlighting the irony of the whole situation. That the 20 dollar hunk of plastic with 4 station options works better than the 80 dollar piece of shit that allows you to attempt the entire FM signal range.
BTW, if anyone wants a free static-transmitter that connects to your iPOD, I can totally hook you up.
