A 15% difference is not that significant.

Walk into a high street store and you'll find variations in price far greater than 15%. Compare goods in any online store and you'll see massive differences in price.

It's all about the resellers business model. Some resellers will have higher overheads, more staff, higher server charges etc to pay, so they will charge higher prices.

It's been the same since the dawn of time with any resale operation. It's what makes resellers competitive. It actually helps us consumers to have this competition. If prices were fixed across the board you'd undoubtedly pay an over all higher amount. That's something none of us want. It's healthy to have resellers competing to provide us with the lowest cost.

So stop whinging about it. If you don't like the prices in one place, go somewhere else and shop.

I remember years ago, you would see a 12" for sale in a specialist shop for £8.00 You could probably get the same track from HMV for £5.00

If I like a site for its layout, ease of use or wahtever, I'm perfectly happy to spend an extra few quid.

How about iTunes? 256 kbps AAC for 0,99€/$/something in pounds, dunno.

I have no problems with iTune's 256 kbps AAC compared to a 320 kbps mp3. I can't hear the difference, so if I find the tune on iTunes I rather get it there, cuz it's cheaper.

Since a number of us have 'missed the point' perhaps you could just clarify what the point of the original post was.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you were whining about the difference in price between different tracks. A number of us have responded with answers.

Why make a post, giving your point of view and even saying 'am I being anal or......' then when someone explains you say they've missed the point?

Pretty pointles I think.......

Why not just make your post, then close it so no one can reply?

I think i clarified what the OP was trying to say.

All he said was be aware that there are differences out there and you can save yourself a bit of cash by looking around and not just sticking to your favourite online store. Common sense to some, but he was just trying to be nice.

This is yet another typical TA thread though where everything goes to shit and people take things personally etc etc..

Let's just leave it at he was trying to give people a heads up..

Sorry but I disagree, if you re-read his orginal post, he says that the differences are unacceptable.

I am making the point that the differences exist because of competition between resellers, and that is a good thing for us as consumers.

I know a lot about this as I am a web reseller myself. Trust me, if prices were the same this would mean 'price fixing', and I think you'll find that this practice (certainly in the UK - which is where he is from) is actually illegal.

Fact.

Just goes to show all of you DJ's and digital download purchasers out there that you MUST shop around first before just using your 'favourite' mp3 store and being ripped off.

Hope this was interesting reading for you!

I wasn't aware of this...thanks for bringing it up...by the way...i don't know why anyone would give you flack for flagging this, if anything they should be elated because they now know that prices can vary and one place may have their tracks for less. Its like why would you not drive five miles out of your way to find a better deal for a car, same applies here. Why not shop around before buying the more expensive track.

Because of course, the concept of shopping around online had never occurred to anyone else before.

I must admit, that the information in the spreadsheet that the OP attached is interesting - but I'm honestly shocked that people need to be told that prices vary from shop to shop.

Are we all so lazy these days that we hadn't previously chosen to move that mouse and click on another MP3 reseller to compare prices?
