Learn your scales kids, that's what he is playing. Bit like a guitar solo, if you know the key and the scales that fit you can do this. Sounds more impressive than it actually is, but he has skills no doubt.

Also helps loads in learning to play other peoples stuff too.

Cheers

+1. On top of that, you'll notice that he's got that lead patch set to an arp pattern (0 octaves), so when he holds a note down longer than a quarter-note, it triggers several more notes, making it sound like he's playing more than he actually is. That's not to say that the guy doesn't have decent chops, but anybody with a decent knowledge of scales/modes and some piano training can do this. You'll also notice that he hit a few clunkers during some of those runs, but then repeated some of them to make it sound like he meant to do that - that's Jazz Improv 101, kids.

The guy's got good timing and plays with good expression, though - there's a lot to be said for that. And, it's a cool tune.

He made something that was good and original!

Let's hear your improv, Mr. Basshunter.

That last video of the D&B drummer is really sick. The guy must be part robot.

Agreed, some very talented people there.

Something I have noticed in my life though is that very often, you get people who excel at a particular instrument and can play anything you put in front of them, but couldn't write a half arsed song to save their livees. Take Yngwe J Malmsteen for example, amazing technical skills as a guitarist but don't half write some crap music with the odd moment of magic just enough to justify a music career.

Then on the opposite end of the scale you have people who don't play so well but have musical genious i.e. Bob Dylan, love him or hate him you can't deny that he has written some of the most famous tunes of all time, often made better by a proper musician who could really play, Jimmy Hendrix for example with All Along the Watchtower. Or Knockin' on Heavens Door by just about anyone you care to name. Not a big fan of Dylan myself but I have to recognise that he has done a lot for music.

Dave Stewart from the Eurythmics is another one of those, great ideas but not much skill.

Don't have a clue what point I am trying to make here... it just came out... brain is going.
Just food for thought and a small Hijack.

Cheers

Funny you should mention him. One of my bands opened for him at one of our regular clubs in East Lansing, MI back in '94 (IIRC). Weirdest gig ever. We were a female-fronted alt-rock dance band opening for a shredder/guitar god. For the first half of the show, the floor was packed with frat boys and sorority girls, while the metalheads all stood around like wallflowers (booing us, of course). When we ended our set, the metalheads swarmed around the stage and the college kids emptied the building - it was like night and day. I think that was the last time we worked with that agent.

The funniest part of the night was when our guitarist came out of the bathroom and had this big proud grin on his face. We were like, "what the hell are so happy about?" He was like "dude, I just peed next to Yngwie!"

the reason i made this post was because i find making tunes can be so stale sometimes or at least end up going to forced.
i love making tunes of the cuff and can lead to being some of my best work. only to find i have to make it all work in to a edm formate hmmm tricky.

Coming up with melodies as you go is not hard either lol. Really this guy isn't doing anything amazing. He is playing live. I do that all the time on my keyboard. You just play a scale and do what ever comes to mind. Its pretty basic musicianship.
