Me agree with this, Trance can be so many things!

I'm not ashamed for making something that I don't make.

trance is my pet sound stated in my original post. and im guessing for you and most here you will use it in everything you try and make in the studio.

if for example you make a house track i bet you will find a trance element in their at some stage.

Not really. Sometimes, I suppose... but what do you consider a "trance element"?

I have been a drummer in a metal band, basist in a reggae band, I played guitar in various bands. I have made Drum and Bass and indeed house and old school hardcore (a la prodigy style back in the day).

I have been making trance for about 6 years now and I have learnt a lot about engineering etc that I wouldn't have learned otherwise.

Sure, a lot of the stuff today is really boring but because it lacks musicianship. My stuff probably isn't as good as the regular stuff being released, but I have had releases too and that's good enough for me. I can happilly say that I love Trance.

Why do people automatically assume that making trance is easier than other forms of music? I find House music so easy that it's downright dull, drum and bass is no different, but that's not suggesting that I do it well or as well as someone who is in to it. But they probably couldn't make trance the way I do.

I have a lot of respect for good Techno producers, to capture that sound is an art form.

Trance is by no means the Pop music of EDM, that belongs totally vocal and electro house at the moment. Trance is more like the red haired step child that's locked away in the cupboard under the stairs. It's the sort of thing that people will say they don't like even if they really do just because they want to be like their friends. That is the type of rep that trance has, so dont' kid yourselves.

I don't see anything wrong in making other style tracks with trance influences... it's called evolution and perhaps something good can come of it, you never know.

I think the main reason people bash trance is that it happens to be something that a lot of us like making and people just aren't into what we do at the moment, very frustrating but it's the truth.

Just my two cents worth...

Cheers
Nem

lets us say you decided on house and you belived that it deserved some nice strings with some good pads behind it. this you could argue has then a trance element.because normally that is what you will hear in trance.
even thoe you set out to make house hence i hope my point of trance being for most producers their pet sound.

Why a trance element, instead of orchestral? Or chillout? Or progressive? or....

That was more my point

edit - that's not to say that I never say "I want to put a touch of tranciness in this"

I think by 'Trancyness' they mean doing the sort of things they would do to a trance track but in a house format. But I get what you mean, who is to say that what you hear in trance originated there?

It all comes down to what influences us and how we apply it, which is ultimately more important than the name we give it.

Cheers

That's because they came and went in 95/96.

Nem are you saying you really like the red haired step child you have locked away under the stairs? .....Think you need some help mate

Trance gets a bad name because of the people like the big DJ's (you know who I mean) who turn it on to this disgusting fluffy cheesy tripe for children or people who have no clue about EDM, so they can make a quick buck (or should that be Euro). Trance has change so much over time and does include a broad spectrum of EDM - when I was in to that music we now call trance it was just called dance music or uplifting house. Go figure.....

I remember watching MTV, of all places, during the emergence of the rave scene. DJ I-wish-I-could-remember-his-fucking-name predicted, in an interview, that corporations and carpetbaggers would happen along and fuck it all up.
