His whole existence is flawed.

He gets me closer to God.

I concur with all of that even though I've probably had too many gin & tonics tonight.

How do I view religion, chach? You can't just say positively or negatively, that doesn't say anything at all.

But I am pretty sure that whatever I would say would not agree with your personal sensibilities, so naturally it's a "negative" element.

Religion is a mental disorder. You can be very smart, but still suffer from it.

It is a form of fixed fantasy.

It probably wasn't you then. So if you don't mind telling me, would you care to share your thoughts on religion. Preferably christianity.

Why do they need to believe in something other than themselves?

If people would just give themselves the credit we would realize how much we can do. This world would probably be a better place if people just believed in themselves more.

Passing responsibility off to a god, or other form of higher power is a disservice to yourself.

That's a very humanistic approach/outlook on the situation. I'm sure you will never understand, hopefully you will one day.Really I don't think I can do anything other then by the grace of God. I'm thankful for everyday I wake up alive. Seeing the way people have changed from one absolute to another assures me of this. It's such a mixed bag though, and so hard to believe if you are a skeptic and have no faith what so ever. But for me personally seeing my parents and the way they live their lives gives me the best example of what christianity is. My dad going from in and out of jail, drug dealing, crazy colombian shit, to now being a pastor. He would never say that he did that on his own but gives God 100% of the credit for changing his life.

OK, that's cool and all, and respect to your Dad for working his shit out, but what if he's wrong? What if he did all of that just on his own?

Well then he did and it was for the better, and I'm glad because otherwise he would've never met my mom and had me

There is plenty of things that are miracles that go into my dads salvation. For example Colombia has a strict 3 strikes policy. The third time he went to jail he should have been put away for good, but through a "mistake" he was released. A week later he got saved through a pastor my godfather now. What he describes and what most as a specific calling. He wrote a book and its published. In spanish though lol
