laws of music ?

I guess i didn't get that memo. If you really are interested in knowing my reservations to the system in more detail and are not just looking to start some petty internet debate that ends up 12 pages long, well let me know and i would be happy to go into more detail.

yeah, music has laws. some can be bent, others broken. but im honestly curious as to why giving DJs a simple tool in order to make their mixes sound better is a "waste of time".

Are you sure you have the right person ? I never said such thing.

And i think you are confusing laws with guidelines.

You just destroyed any shred of credibility you may have had prior to entering this thread.

Why do you think all the top DJs mix harmonically?

Hint: it's not because they're looking for an extra challenge in their day-to-day work.

Because the "tool" makes things easier for them and tools that make things easier for you are a big no-no in the DJ world. I bet you got THAT memo.

you sure about that one ?

my feelings about wether it was a waste of time are irrelevant. I supported people trying to learn which i clearly stated but you chose to ignore and the whole impetus to my original post is that if you want to learn something, why not learn it properly. It is unfortunate you have to take words out of context to somehow try to school someone. Perhaps i was not clear enough for you, in that case i apologise but you definately aren't getting the jist of what i'm trying to say.

why learn it "properly" if im only using it for mixing? i key all my own tracks so i know they're correct and then i mix them correctly. exactly what would my performance gain from having "proper" knowledge of the circle of fifths?

Not really a great deal, music theory is a lot more valuable in the production side of things.

I'm not talking about circle of fifths. I think knowing how going from any key center to another and the emotional affect that has on people, that is what i consider important. You won't learn that from those tutorials.

no, you learn that by experimenting and working out what sounds good. and the camelot system helps in discovering that.
