I think all the so called trance djs are moving / have moved in different directions since when they became popular.. to be honest they all sounded fairly similar imo back in 2000. At a quick look I would say..

Ferry - Done that electro LEF with his style.
Armin - Seems to of gone down a fairly vocal route.
PVD - Uses Ableton in interesting ways
Marco V - Moved away from his traditonal sound of his earlier years.
Tiesto - I think by and far he has progressed the most, especially in the last year or so. Incorporating a lot more different genres into his sets.

Above is my opinion, and I am not saying its good or bad, I just think they have progressed in some way.

I think the Trance scene is becoming more and more commercial rather than experimental as it was in those days..

We are in the mainstream era, following the masses..

We follow DJs that follow us ! -----> no progression?

Time shall tell..

The fact remain that we miss those Epic Livesets back to those Sasha/Digweed, Oakie, PvD days..

That to me sounds like still claiming that "There is No Substitute For Cubic Inches" while modern tiny turbocharged V4 engines beat the hell out V8's in more than one way except sound.

But what would be their original sound?

The boards like trance.nu, tranceaddict, uktrancealliance, are great for music; they spread the word about the radio shows, the gigs, and releases.

ughhh I know. But as someone already stated, it's not what made him famous. Infact, I wouldn't even classify Armin's house-past as common knowledge. Maybe around here it is, but not for the younger generation ASOT-kids.

I thought Marco V's traditional sound was hard techno?

Trance I think itself is very limited in terms of sounds you can produce. Not much you can experiment when you have to have some sort of synthy sound to qualify as trance. Well, at least 'modern' trance anyways
