Yep, i tested a mastering service which had a price of 15 euro for a track.
The guy had great client list, good reputation and all that.
I sended him the track, got it back the day after, and started complaining about the sound, the mastering engineer would not accept the fact i was not happy, and apparently there was something wrong with my ears.
Needless to say i did it myself and his master went to the recycling bin, since then mastering engineers can k*** my ass.
It costs money for good mastering.
Just by looking at a waveform you see whether a track is nicely mastered or not. (Good master will have a curvy top of the waveform, bad mastering will look more like a brick)
Here are an example:

well if good mastering skills were about a nice graphical representation of the waveform, I'd completely agree with you. But, sorry mate, I don't. There's no good representation, it's all about how it sounds. But if it sounds like a damaged track, then YES I agree, you'll see a rectangle/brick. But if it sounds good you can as well see a brick, just that the overall mixing supports a little bit more softclipping. Too much kills it all, but softsaturation sounds good at times, and it draws rectangles too!
Yesterday I reuploaded the entire cyborganic album for immediate replacement on all portals, "someone" had a very good idea and put ozone 4 in brickwall mode on the master before uploading it. I had complaints, and had to act immediately. My apologies go to those who bought it for the inconvenience.
