I think they're fine for small gatherings. You can actually really crank them if you want and there's no distortion. They do also have a built in limiter and a red light that flashes on the front if you're clipping. Anything more than a mall gathering and I'd go PA like the others said.

So if I got the Logitech Z-2300s, how would I go about hooking my mixer up into them? Connect the master out into the Line in on my Laptop? I'd be using these speakers for both mixing and general pc usage.

Yep, that's basically it.

I actually had my speakers plugged into the separate headphone jack on my laptop soundcard and then had the mixer master out into the line in. on the laptop.

Hmm. Well I just used what was built in. As far as external cards, others could probably suggest better than I can. But remember, if you're just using the Logitechs anyway, I don't see the need to go out and buy a external sound card.

Yeah, but the thing is that my laptop doesn't have a line in jack, so I'd need to find something else. Do you know any laptop internal soundcards that have line in?

Hmm. I'm really not sure. Try Newegg or Buy.com maybe?

So let me get this straight. You're looking for monitors for djing and the occasional party and you're buying some Logitech computer speakers and hooking them up to your computer and then hooking the output from your mixer to the input of your computer?

Sounds like a really bad idea to me.

First of all, Logitech, I mean really now… They make decent mice for sure, but speakers? And then routing the signal thru your computer? Most likely that will cause a terrible lag in the signal fucking up each and every mix therefore making the speakers totally pointless for monitoring.

I had that exact setup for over 2 years until I bought my Truths and honestly, the speakers in question (the Z-2300s) are perfect for a start up setup. There is no lag as you say and they serve the purpose of a small party quite well. Of course they're not "monitors" in the tradition sense of flat, clear sound, but they will serve his purpose fine until he feels the need to upgrade down the line.

Edit: plus, I recenty says these speakers on slickdeals for under 100 bucks. That's an absolute steal. They used to retail a few years ago for 200-250.

Didn't mean to turn this into an argument guys .

Anyway, sorry for all the questions, but how would one go about connecting a laptop (without an external soundcard) to a pair of monitors (such as the B2301A's)?
