It was stupid eitherway, but wow, if you guys run for cover anytime you hear a low flying jet then the terrorist won... Like someone else said, people near/at the pentagon don't run like nancies when they see a low flying plane.

Also, Bush or Obama, or fucking John Denver in the Whitehouse wouldn't matter because they had no idea what was going on. It was their PR department, and even then it was probably not even a partisan decision. I am sure all the past, yes PAST times they have photographed a 747 with presidential colors flying near monuments it wasn't something that the president was even aware of.

I'm sorry that those in such low population density areas don't get it.

And in previous exercises, people knew it was coming, because they didn't threaten people with sanctions if it was leaked. Instead, we dealt with a flyby of skyscrapers, people in the streets, etc., because of nothing.

have you ever been to NY? planes don't fly anywhere near that low when near Manhattan. I live right by an airport (newark airport) so i'm used to loud planes overhead, but if a plane was roaring over my building in times square you bet your ass i'd be a little nervous about it. planes don't belong near the city, and when they are near the city it means something is wrong.

look at it this way: if you see a tiger in the zoo you wouldn't be alarmed, however, if that tiger was walking around your neighborhood i'm sure you'd be a little nervous.

it's all about understanding the situations. I think the example from my previous post (i edited the post) should put it into perspective for the suburban dwellers.

I see your guys' point. For some reason I assumed that there would be planes on approach in the vicinity of Manhattan, since there are a number of airports nearby. And the fighter plane adds to the unusual nature of this - especially given the secrecy.

That said, for people in Washington, who evidently planned this, low-flying planes are rather normal, as Washington National Airport is about a half mile from the Pentagon and a mile or so from the White House. It's unnerving the first time you see it, but you quickly grow accustomed to it. In NYC you haven't had that luxury. The folks in the Air Force that planned this are probably based at the Pentagon, and probably didn't even realize how unusual this would look.

Each airport is at least 10 miles from lower manhattan, and all the approaches avoid the city.

I flew into DC in Feb and I was surprised at how close the airport was to the capital. The plane actually had to turn while it was making its final descent. Reagan is not a normal setup for an airport.
