Yeah, usaully cheap ones are produced by lesser known companies and are not as well made. Usually cheaper materials are used, especially the paint seems to peel/chip off them and they are easily scratched and damaged.

try installing stable mp3 codecs for whatever burning program you're using.

i used a version of Nero once that i later found had codec problems which caused jumping on nearly every track.

How did you find this out? Currently I use iTunes and notice issues, would be nice to not have to worry about them coming out of time.

you said your laptop is a few years old, how much did you use the cd drive to burn cds? I went through a stage of copying movies when I worked at a video store and was burning 3-4 dvds every other day and after a couple months my drive was shot. that could be an issue.

if all else fails, why don't you see if you can use another computer or a friend's computer? burn the same track that you're having trouble with as well as on your TDK cds and using windows media player or w/e you used and see if the problem persists. if not, it may be time to replace your cd drive (or to buy an external one, don't know how good those are though)

The issue is not the brad of CD. Unless you're throwing them around your room, a brand new CD wont skip if burned properly.

Make sure your computer isn't running a bunch of processes at once, and make sure that it isn't going to sleep or shutting the monitor off during the burning process.

Atleast in my case and I think in the OP's as well he isn't speaking about skipping, more so tracks coming out of time that are perfectly beat matched going in.

For me im not talking about 2 minutes down the line im talking 20-30 seconds in at times. Doesn't happen all the time but the fact I don't have confidence in it consistently staying takes me away from other things I could be doing to make my set more interesting.

As other have said above and to summarise...

Use fairly decent discs, Ridata, TDK, Verbatim, Memorex, Sony, Philips etc. Unbranded ones are hit or miss.

Burn using Nero or other decent program.

Dont be watching YouTube or doing other tasks in the background when burning.

Burn at 4-12x to eliminate jitter as best as possible.

Test burns fully before hitting the club (home CD player and car CD players are good as well if you dont want to use CDJs all the time for playback testing.

Keep discs in good condition!
