I still buy records, but it's usually just to get a physical copy of some of the most bang tracks I have on digital. I buy digital every month and maybe 2-3 vinyls in the same period. I think the most recent vinyl I have is Oakenfold's Southern Sun (2003?), and the rest is a lot of rock and ~2000 EDM. Even if I had all the money and space in the world to buy every record out there, I don't think I would. I like the ability to just walk around the house and hear music play randomly for hours.

I don't really worry if I can't get it on wax. There is a lot of music out there, waiting in some dusty record store for me.

Yeah, I buy vinyls for my favourite tracks of the genres that I spin for parties. Or the vinyls that I cant buy or get digitally or on CD, but really want on my Ipod / mix - I simply encode those to MP3.

Vinyls are picky little bastards and require proper storage and handling. Sound quality is amazing though. And vinyls do make you look professional.

I have nothing against vinyl. I'd buy more if I had the money. I also buy MP3s - Beatport, ITunes, PureTracks; buy a large number of CDs, too - and also download a whole bunch.

A bit of everything - its part of a healthy musical lifestyle, I think.

One cannot just download everything and not spend a penny on music. It is bad for the music industry and your artists.

I think the bulkiness and weight kind of act like quality control. You don't want to carry tons of records, so you only take the better ones.

You can also think of it this way:

Records are dying. Labels die every 10 seconds, therefore, labels will put safe, well produced (well produced does not equal a great song) stuff out there to sell on vinyl. I perfer digital, lots of hidden gems and obscure stuff that won't even get bothered to be sold on vinyl.

I don't buy vinyl because it's an addiction that I'm not willing to succumb to. I'm bad enough with CDs as it is.

At least with CDs I'm not tempted to walk into every second-hand store I pass by. Black Crack Addicts can't resist the allure of finding some obscure lost record collecting dust in the bins at the back of pawn shops.

edit: that said, I'll never buy digital. Truly a waste of money if you ask me, but I needn't get into it here.
