In some ways, I do relate to what elFreak has said about the productions not living up to his DJing standards - I have similar feelings. Danny is probably the DJ I admire the most as I honestly dont think there is any other DJ on the planet who can weave through so many forms of music and still keep their own unique sound throughout. He is head and shoulders above 99.9% of DJs and I think most importantly, is the fact that he earned his fame and reputation through DJing alone. But now times have changed and practically no-one gets recognised as a DJ without having their own productions out first. It is a sales driven market now with little or no room for "traditional DJs" to break in. So I think Danny has found that in order to stay within the top tier of DJs, he needs to get his own stuff out on a consistent basis. I am not saying that he is only producing out of sheer pressure to do so or that he doesnt enjoy/have a talent for it, I just think that most promoters around the world nowadays are booking DJs purely based on their productions & Danny needs releases to stay in the mindframe of the edm community.

I havent been that into his new stuff so far. They are far from bad and I did think "The Shining" was a great track but the rest I have found to be just decent. I suppose given that he has been a hero of mine for so many years, I expect his releases to be 10/10 material every time! Again, I do like his newer stuff but just cant hold in the same regard as his DJing.....yet! But let's hope he gets better and better with each release.

I think being a great producer has pretty much always been necessary to become a super famous DJ.

Take a look at some famous DJ's. I'm not saying I particularly enjoy their releases but I believe certain tracks have had a major part in their fame.

Tiesto - Adagio For Strings
Armin Van Buuren - The Sound Of Goodbye
Paul Van Dyk - For An Angel/Shivers/Love Stimulation
Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun/Starry Eyed Surprise/Ready Steady Go

And in a whole other class
John Digweed - Heaven Scent
Sasha - Coma/Xpander

I do realize that these have been played to death and some don't get played anymore but they are still very recognizable.

Also having a radio show helps :P

All of those DJs were famous before those productions by DJing alone, and all of them also had previous releases superior than those listed.

Just saying.

I think it's sad that appart from those guys who made it in the 90's, hardly anyone has broken out in the DJ crowd without a hit record (Eddie and Jabiela I suppose have, but they got lucky catching the technology change-over from vinyl to CDJ-EFX).

Being an amazing DJ is so hard now, everyone has access to the latest tracks and can stitch them together in software. No one (except the old school) know what a REAL DJ is anymore.

"On The Moon" contains a sample from Leigh Morgan & Scope - Isle Of Indigo, well at least - it's also used in that song.

About 3:00 mins in...

Danny needs to find some new ground.

He's a fucking great DJ but his recent productions are just like, token epic house tracks.

I'm so over big swooshy big room proggy stuff.

I like it when he keeps things deep and chunky.

I agree , and you can only hear that stuff when he does a extended 6 hours set , which is the best Danny Howells .
