From teh sporting news...

Either Manny Is a Woman, Or He Was on Some Sort of Steroids Cycle
---
ESPN and Yahoo! report that the banned substance in question is human chorionic gonadotropin, or HCG, which is a female fertility drug. I realize that means nothing to you, so here, let Wikipedia explain exactly why a male would be injecting himself with this:
In males, hCG mimics LH and helps restore and maintain testosterone production in the testes. As such, hCG is commonly used during and after steroid cycles to maintain and restore testicular size as well as endogenous testosterone production. However, if hCG is used for too long and in too high a dose, the resulting rise in natural testosterone will eventually inhibit its own production via negative feedback on the hypothalamus and pituitary.
In other words, you take it after you’re finished with whatever steroids you’re taking so that you don’t turn into a woman. Basically. So while he didn’t specifically test positive for what we’d traditionally consider steroids, he tested positive for a drug that a male would only take after having done steroids. Smoking gun, and all that.
|
ESPN.com says it can be used instead of steroids altogether, but then he's still running the risk of not being able to produce testosterone....and that HCG is "similar to Clomid, the drug Bonds, Giambi and others used as clients of BALCO."

Are you serious? There is a big difference between the Bonds and the Manny situation.
Bonds was a complete asshole about the entire situation, laughing in our faces while denying it to this day.
Ramirez admitted he did the drug in question. He apologized. He knew what the consequences were and he's accepting them. He's not being an asshole. He has been nothing but spectacular for the Dodgers, has caused no negative controversy until now, and right now he's fessing up to what he did.
The Giants really have nothing, and have had absolutely nothing to cheer about for years now, so I guess naturally, they will jump on every opportunity to bask in the aftermath of this horrible news.
Sorry guys, Lincecum cant pitch everyday. Enjoy the series this weekend..... |
I have a couple things to say about that:
1) Manny (and his agent) does have the benefit of seeing what happens in the media when you a) deny b) keep your mouth shut c) fess up to only half the truth, but omit other parts of the truth.
(See Barry, McGuire, A-Rod, etc, and you'll see examples of that.)
2) It was something prescribed by a doctor???? That is an EXCUSE - how many men do you know that get prescribed female fertility drugs
Is having having some problems with his ovaries?
Manny may be accepting the judgement, but he is not admitting he did steroids. Manny may have been positive in attitude, but now everything including his world series vicotry is in question...in other words, he's still a good guy in the eyes of his fans cause he only got caught now? PALEAAAAAAAASE.
This probably would be 100x worse if the Giants had signed him. I admit, I wanted them to sign Manny, and would still rather have him on our side, but that wasn't going to happen.
not here to start a war. Teams are just teams, players are just players. I'm not a part of any team, or friends with any of the players, so in the end, who cares (unless you are a Raiders fan then you actually think like you are part of the team/gang/whatever lol)
...but in the end there are more guys cheating than we realize, and they are on your team, mine, and others. They're a product of the baseball system. Why today they still think they won't get caught, I have no clue....
alright...let's get back to trance!
