I don't know about the other sites, but you have to be on a label in order to be accepted by beatport and they stopped accepting new labels a few months ago:

I want to sell my releases on Beatport. How do I do this?

We think it is very important to be the definitive home of dance music and to accommodate as many new labels and talent as possible. However, at the current time we are not taking on any new label partners. We thank you for your patience as we work to bring on more new labels in the near future.

A label that I worked with has been trying to get a sub-label on beatport, but they've been rejected several times. I think Stephen Wiley mentioned that his label was rejected as well.

that is unfortunate. Why don't they just hire someone for quality control. Now people have to work with a label that provides absolutely nothing and then have to share the money.

it's a commercial thing. They don't want millions of individuals selling a few units each as their administration costs would be astronomical. Labels mean sharing the money but at least your behind a name - don;t forget a lot of people buy tracks based on the label becuase they trust the content r can at least identify the style.

Also any label doesn't have to provide capital - the major thing to look for is exposure and publicity/marketing. Labels that are good at what they do will do more than just plonk it on beat port and hope for the best. So beatport make them sell more than XX amount of units and therefore put pressure on labels to release a certain level of quality and promote effectively.

I don't like the sharing the money aspect or the fact that you have to go through a label to get it out there per say but that is what they are meant to do for you so just make sure they do it well and make them earn their 50%

CONGRATS BOOSTER!!!!!!

Congrats. I would have that you'd have more stuff signed by now with all the great stuff you've put up on TA before.

Congratulations man! In my experience, with some labels there is an advance, with others (most in my experience) there is nothing. 50% of royalites is standard.

Thank you, there's another one based solely on a remix competition that's probably going to be released in some time...but without any royalties/fee...can't do anything, the guy is the author...
I have no other tracks signed since...well...I am not good at marketing myself...anyway thanks for your compliment

For RichieV and others: actually there was no advance payment for doing the remix, but I feel the label is actually going to promote the music quite a bit and I kinda wanted to get involved with this one particularly...because...well they just sound like a cool label, that's all...
The only thing that bothers me now is if there would be some catch in the contract...
For now I take it as a chance to get some exposure.

Good work mate, congratulations.

50% is good IMO, although the lack of advance means you may get very little. At least its equitable though.

Although... RnB

Congrats Booster,

Long overdue in my opinion.
50% is pretty standard so not bad.

Cheers
