Apple seems to hold true to their warranties as well, at least in my experience. When I purchased my laptop I was automatically covered for a year. Because I was a student at the time, they threw in a free iPod (which I otherwise wouldn't have purchased). It broke. Three times. Each time I took it back and was immediately given a new one. The final time was just two days before my warranty expired. They offered to renew my warranty for $60. I passed on it, and have had that very same iPod to this day.

*knocks on wood*

Apple is really good about their warranties. I can't knock them at all in that regard. I have a few friends that have had Apple fix their laptops for free even after the warranty expired.

As a general rules, distributor warranties are next to useless.

if you bought from PSSL, surely it's up to them to provide the warranty, regardless of who they pay to provide it?

does it say anything in the contract to say this warranty is not with them but with another company?

got it on my tv since there won't be any more of them and if something happens that pioneer doesn't cover (image retention, ambient temp. or humidity or dust, the jacks coming loose, etc.), I'd either be screwed or have to pay an insane amount to fix it.

I have them on a lot of stuff, but it depends on how much other stuff it covers (like the laptop example). For example, the one on my remote covers me jamming the touchscreen in over time (manufacturer doesn't). I don't have one on my amp, though, since I already have it hooked up to a dedicated cooling fan (trigger & all) and a nice power conditioner that's plugged into a 65-lb UPS. I've got all my bases covered on that thing already.

consider yourself lucky - I bought a $1700 extended warranty on my Beemer from company called "Warranty Gold" (look it up). They went belly up (way before economy collapsed) and so did my $1700 only 5 short months into it. They now are going through bancrupcy courts (for the last 5 years) and I'm looking to recover somewhere around whopping $80 or so. Taught me a lesson. So, count your losses and while it sucks - good luck collecting from defunct company.

Your warranty is as good as company underwriting you and company behind them. These days you never know how and where you'd get screwed - it's a bummer but I learned lesson - I'm never taking such gambles again.

No doubt there are instances where they are worth it, but as you mentioned, a HUGE factor is the cost of actually replacing the product compared to the cost of the extended warranty. Also, if it is something being discontinued, they are worth it a lot of times, due to the fact that if it is discontinued, you generally get a brand new model. lol

Want to know your mistake? 3rd party warranties. Get them backed by the dealer you bought it at. 3rd party warranties are usually the most risky ones.

Not in the US. There is a guarantor of the warranty, but if the guarantor is not replaced, tough shit.

you guys have some awful consumer laws. store gets to take your money but takes no responsibilty at all for the products you pay them for.

guy from A&H called me today regarding it, laughed when i told him the company when out of business. he was really helpful, told me to send him an e-mail with my unit info/how it became fudged up, and since its A&H's fault for a faulty firmware, he said he'll do everything in his power to help get them to take care of the warranty from their pockets

we'll see
