I have no issue with getting rid of polluting lawnmowers as long as the government provides rebates when you purchase a new lawnmower. Somehow I don't think this will be the case...it will be more of a stop using them or we will fine you approach.

I have an issue with it. Why dont they hire people to do it for us with manual equipment since they seem to think everyone else has the time to do it? While they are at it they can dig out the dandelions that are infesting our city thanks to the last nitwit ban that the city and then the province passed.

And soon they will ban cars and then buses and then they will figure out that breathing emits CO2 and restrict movement to lessen the impact. and on and on and on.

Im sure soon all produce in stores will have to be local to save the environment. "why eat an orange when u can have a locally grown turnip??"

We sit here and squabble about lawnmowers while places like china laugh at us, emit real pollution and proceed to bankrupt us into the stoneages with cheap products.

We have nothing but our own ignorance to thank for this!

They want people to use environmentally friendly lawnmowers (ie push lawnmowers and electric lawnmowers). I don't agree with banning other lawnmowers as it forces people to spend money on something they don't actually need to spend money on...lawnmowers are not cheap. If the government is willing to give a rebate of 100% of the cost of a new lawnmower then I am all for people trading in old for new. If its going to cost the citizens even a single penny then the government should go fuck itself with a rusty lawnmower blade.

electric lawnmowers are dangerous as you can run over the cord or electrocute yourself if the grass is moist. I know someone who had this happen to them. Push mowers? Pullleeeez!

You go use what you want, ill use what i want. Its a free country isnt it? wait dont answer that!

Its only free until the government can find away to make money from it

I agree that I should be able to use what I want and you should be able to use what you want. Like I said, the only way I would agree with banning certain lawnmowers is if the government rebates 100% the cost of a new lawnmower. If the governments were forced into having to pay for people to convert to new technologies or environmentally friendly technologies then you wouldn't see them so quick to ban every little thing.

might as well ban farting too then

seriously? banning lawnmower is the best that this city can come up with to battle pollution?

I can think of shitloads of more stuff that causes more pollution than lawnmowers

PS: environmentalism is not the business of municipal governments

More important things to worry about in Toronto than lawnmowers...

You could say that about anything - and then nothing gets done. These engines are a major source of polution and getting rid of them would make a noticeable difference to both the air pollution and noise pollution in the city. I would fully support something like this if you give people enough time to adapt. 3 years seems short but 5 years seems fair - lets move on things like this or we will all be dead in 50 years!

You need to do some research my friend. Southern Ontario and the NE US are some of the most polluted areas of N.America. Why is it acceptable to have 7 days or even 1 day of bad air? There should be zero. We have the technology to accomplish this, we just need the will. And it will help the economy at the same time!
