Please, keep us posted on this. I think this is an all too frequently ignored aspect of what we, as musicians in general (to include DJ's and Producers), ought to pay attention to. I've hung out with people who were just down-right careless when it came to levels and have known one person who, I believe, lost his ability to beat-match because his hearing became severely impaired.

http://www.hearnet.com/ is a resource for musicians concerned about their hearing.

I read an article about the Grateful Dead who have gone to extensive lengths to protect their hearing by giving each member a way to control the levels of each track a monitor was playing, on stage.

EDIT - Redundancy

Hey Woody,
first of all good luck, mate.

Anyway, don't stress over it too much untill the doctor tells you to.
I had a minor issue like this also, a small ulcer can develop in your ear (something similar to acne, you know those little things on your skin, when you were still teen age, right?) and once that pops, it bleeds a little bit ... so ... it could have been this, once it's desinfected there's no more problems anymore...good luck to you!

GOOD NEWS!!! I just got back from my Dr. He said my ears are fine. Nothing wrong, no raptured ear drums, nothing! He prescribed me Claritin to clear the stuffiness.

Now, that was a wake up call. Ear plugs are a must now!

Hope you gonna be alright Woody..
well i'm now seriously after some ear plugs.. any recommendations that don't break the bank too much? i always listen at low volumes.. i tend to get irritated by noise especially in the morning time..lol I think my hearing has become more sensitive over the last couple years of learning how to produce.

my dads a Health and safety guy and he says prolonged exposure to loud noise especially bass can make the hairs in your ears the tiny ones used in interpreting sound i think lie down flat temporarily but over time they lie down for good and hearing becomes muffled. Glad your ok though wood

Processing a highly structured and complex pattern of sensory input as a unified percept of "music" is probably one of the most elaborate features of the human brain.....understanding how music is perceived and how it may elicit intense sensations is far from being understood.
