I think they expect an arrpeggiator to have hundreds of preset melody patterns [like in z3ta for instance] for them to choose from [which actually makes it NOT an arpeggiator anymore] because they cannot make their own.

Seeing as the FL arpeggiator is...an arpeggiator. Its no wonder why they think it sucks.

What they want is a pattern editor. Only they don't know it.

To OP, there is a vst that does exactly what u want and more, its by Sugar Bytes, its called Consequence. Its actually an instrument that most of the interface is an arpeggiater, besides it being an instrument in itself, you can route the midi out to other instruments. I tested it, it is actually quite nice, I just prefer to draw the notes.

ps- the built in instruments imo were quite sucky but, the arp is what really makes this vst what it is.

Exactly. I just used the wrong term. I know music theory and I know what an arpeggio actually is. It's just that on some synths I have used, the pattern editor is called the arpeggiator even though it doesn't actually arpeggiate anything. It just plays notes in a certain pattern. I forget what synth it is but I play around with it a lot when I go to Guitar Center.

Z3ta has an arpeggiator, that does up, down, |updown| and updown...the main arpeggio methods. But it also has like 200 melodic patterns that can be played.

I don't know of any synth or FX that does this off the top of my head. But I am sure one of the big fancy synths can do it. Though I would suggest using the piano roll in what ever DAW. Though if you are looking for melodic patterns for inspiration, then I would agree, I do that myself sometimes.

I saw a screenshot and that looks like exactly what I'm looking for, thanks.

No prob, glad to help a fellow producer It really is a nice plug, if you get it, don't give up on controlling other vst's, it was a little tricky at first if I remember correctly but, the effort of getting it to work correctly was worth it.

You use cubase in a live situation?

no what I meant by ''live'' is direct midi thru

like play a note on your keyboard and hear the effects of the midi arpegiator instead of having to write the notes then playing it back

i dont think i would use cubase live

You can do this just fine. The MIDI arpeggiator and step sequencer sucks big time though.

Yeah, I've always found the cubase midi arpeggiator a pain in behind.

Is there a Logic/Au pattern editor or midi arp available?

I also remember ages ago there was some method to draw some notes, then assign it to a soft sampler so when you pressed one note the pattern would get played in the correct scale per note. Can't for the life of me find it now though?
