That's not true.

If you're broadcasting something without the owner's permission then it's against the law, regardless of whether or not you are doing it for profit.

Doesn't purchasing a song automatically give you the right to play it however you want?

No. It's just like when you buy a DVD and they have the disclaimer at the start warning you against public screenings (OIL RIGS!).

The reason why trance.nu are so harsch when it comes to posting mixes are because they are sucking off Tiesto and Armin (I.e. receiving free CDs for review purpose etc). Imagine Tiesto getting angry at them. That would be a nightmare. Loosing his support! The death of trance! This is complete bullshit.

trance.nu are trying to set up a morally higher ground whereby their forum is not a filesharing site. Whatever benefits this brings is rather pointless, considering its membership base is filled by all the teenagers alternatively logging into the countless blogs to download music anyway.

However, the t.nu owners can sleep comfortably at night - knowing their site is legit? lol

That is right - even though it's a commonly accepted policy in the EDM "scene" (sic) that labels don't care about DJ mixes being shared it still isn't legal.

DJ mixes are "fair use" in my opinion. But I'm not a lawyer nor will I fight it in court. The fact is that sharing mixes is an accepted part of EDM culture.

I have an amusing trance.nu anecdote to share. A couple of years ago when I began promoting free and legal music licensed under the Creative Commons I was shut out from posting on their forum for file sharing. Initially they said it doesn't matter what the licence appears to be; they wanted written authorization from every artist plainly stating that they were cool with having their music posted online. Mind-boggling. It's like no one can imagine that a producer might want to share their music freely to reap the promotional benefits. I haven't had any trouble since winning that particular war at least, but still... what a strange set of attitudes and policies.

they just don't want shit on their hands. so they draw a sharp line. if members still want mixes they go to here or the mixingbowl or whatever. it's not that if you can't get it at t.nu, you can't get it anywhere else..

What good is trance.nu anyway? Seems like a lot of Armin/Tiesto fan boy stuff and little else.

yeah people there seem to think that Tiesto invented trance sometimes around the year 2000.
